A machine that was developed lately
What it is
When it was developed
How it works and helps man

Well, our times have a seen a lot developments
And I would like to talk about a new medical machine
Developed recently, and it is going to be a great help to man.

The machine is called ultra sound signal chain
Which, the developers say, would help doctors and patients alike.
It’s the latest development in medical care, and
The developers Frost and Sullivan says that this machine
Can be commercially developed within a few months

When produced commercially, this machine will be small
Enough to be made portable, and it is designed to
Fit in ICUs, ambulances and similar mobile triage situations.

When it comes to its medial application
It works much more efficiently than any other ultra sound based
Diagnosing device. It is very simple, and almost sound proof and
It works on a new microchip which functions like a chain does
Identifying ultrasounds one after the other and ending up with the
Last possible detection; that is even the indecipherable sound beats
This is best suited for people
who are suffering from age related ailments.

I think this chip-supported machine will revolutionize
The way geriatric care works now these days

As our century is bound to look after greater number of
Aged people than it was before, this is medical machine
Will give the aged population a bit relief.

Yes, this is a great development, that is all about it sir.

An artwork you liked
What
When
Who you liked it

Well, it is really interesting to appreciate artworks.
Recently, I happened to visit an art exhibition
Hosted by a group of local artists in my place.

There were a lot of paintings, drawings, applied art forms and so on
Among them I got hooked to an artwork done by one Mr.Warrior
I do not know much of his whereabouts.

What I liked most is the way he presented his thought
Actually it was modern art form in which he was trying to
Highlight some social issues like child abuse, female feuticide
Aggression against women and children.

It was oil on canvass, and the work was so attractive in the sense that
Ordinary folk themselves could understand the message
It was an blend of thought, creativity and imagination

And the colour combination he used looked really interesting
That he was selecting hard colours and strong strokes to represent
Ideas that are really hard pressing and that need immediate attention
In the bottom of the canvas, there was a message
Running into only four words.

“The real is not”
what I understood is this,
things we see around us
are not actual, and we do not see now much of
what is happening around.

Frankly, speaking this artwork made me think
I knew that there are so many evils working around us.
And, yes, I liked it very much.

That is all about the artwork l liked.

Some students prefer to prepare for their exams by forming small learning circles –small group of students of the same stream- so that learn things better, whereas there are some who prefer to follow individual learning atmosphere.

• Look at these two preferences and find out what advantages they both enjoy.

Jaypeesdoc. 25.5.09. 8. www.jpsukham.blogspot.com

Different students have different approaches to learning when it comes to preparing for their exams. The most widely practiced method is forming learning circles. However, there are students who prefer to prepare for their exams by studying things alone. Obviously, both of them enjoy several benefits of varying degrees.

A leaning circle is a small group of students, pursuing the same stream, studying their lessons together. This approach offers many advantages to individual members. Primarily, it is a common platform for each member of the circle. It gives them opportunities to put in their efforts and ideas for the common good of the whole circle. Secondly, discussion leads to better understanding of a difficulty topic. Thirdly, when they are in groups, there is strong possibility of mutual help, that is, one weak in one paper may get helped by another who is strong in it. Thirdly, learning circles widen the horizons of knowledge as every individual is unique with different qualities, thoughts and interests. This diversity will ultimately benefit everyone. 100

When it comes to individual learning atmosphere, there are several advantages. First of all, one can enjoy great freedom in one’s studies, like when to study and what and how long etc. Secondly, one is able to employ one’s own suitable techniques and methods to learn lessons. For example, different students adopt different technique to learn difficult areas of their studies. This can be maintained if one studies alone. Thirdly, learning needs great concentration and some students feel that a circle is a crowd so it is better to be alone and learning. And, finally, it can be said that a student who follows individual learning atmosphere is a master of his schedule and s/he can have great control over his/her performance in the exam. 100

Looking at the above points, it can be concluded that both the parties enjoy great benefits. However, it is the individual preferences that make one select a learning circle or go it alone. As every one is unique, every student needs to select his or her course of action when it comes to their academic pursuits. 45 words

Task: II 40 Mnts

As the whole world remains concerned about environmental problems, there is an argument that all development measures need to be environment-friendly whereas there are some who argue that no development initiative is possible without causing some harm to the environment.

· How do YOU view these two arguments?

It is a fact that there are differing views on whether it is possible to make all development initiatives environment-friendly or it is difficult to have developments without doing some harm to the environment. I feel that the former argument is an impossibility whereas the latter a possibility. 45 words

In order to prove the point, let me take an example. It is accepted world over that power security is a must to have developments. But is it possible to have power security without establishing power plants? No many would refute the fact that it is impossible to make all modern power projects environment-friendly. Or, if at all we go for some environment-friendly energy sources, we cannot meet the mounting demands for power. Therefore, it is right to argue that development without power is impossible, and we need power plants even if they are a little environment-unfriendly. 95 words

On the other hand, there are certain areas where we can have a balanced approach. For example, we can have many tourism development initiatives causing minimal harm or no harm to the environment. It is known that tourism developments need infrastructure and the same would cause some effect on the surroundings. But there are ways to ensure that such measures do not do much harm to the environment. Furthermore, there are certain tourism genres, which are absolutely environment-friendly: eco tourism, dark tourism, heritage tourism etc. They are either environment-friendly or much less harmless to the environs. 90 words

Winding it up, it is right to say that development incurs environmental concerns, either big or small. But, there are some areas where we are able to sustain the environment and enjoy developments. It is all in our attitude towards developments. 40 words

Oceans are under threat

Vaatupura A. Jayaprakash

Our Oceans are being constantly threatened by human activity the same way our environment in the land is. Pollutions of all types contribute to this threat. Drainages, industrial effluents and exhausts, international dumping of electronic, toxic radio active substances, frequent oil slicks from container

As this is the case with our Seas, do they not deserve much better treatment than what they get over the years of these so-called-human evolution and the technological and intellectual revolutions thereof. ‘They do’ is the answer.

Ever since the declaration at the Earth Summit in Brazil in 1992 that June 8 every year would be observed as Oceans Day, much water has flown down the bridges to the seas and oceans around the world. Anyway, the declaration had many lofty objectives. The role of Oceans and seas in maintaining the balance of life on earth and therefore the need to keep three fourth of the globe without pollution or with bearable amount of pollution were the ultimate objectives.

Our Ocean and Seas are maintaining the mercury levels of the world at sustainable levels, keeping the clock of rains around the world, sustaining the lives of millions of people who eke out their lives on fish stock and maritime activities, watering the lives and their hundreds of thousands of live stock and farm sectors of millions of people in water scarce countries like the ones in the Middle East and elsewhere.

They are again contributing a huge share for the food security of the world and providing a level playing field for all geographically convenient nations around the world to have their own shares of maritime trade and the revenue thereof and the never exhaustible corals and similar invaluable natural reserves and finally they humbly contribute a sizeable share of revenue through tourism to many economies.

As this is the case with our Seas, do they not deserve much better treatment than what they get over the years of these so-called-human evolution and the technological and intellectual revolutions thereof. ‘They do’ is the answer.

Our Oceans are being constantly threatened by human activity the same way our environment in the land is. Pollutions of all types contribute to this threat. Drainages, industrial effluents and exhausts, international dumping of electronic, toxic radio active substances, frequent oil slicks from container ships and their frequent wrecks, the ever increasing maritime transportation and the exhaust, oil and fuel leakages linked to it, mounting motorized fishing, run off from the shores carrying residues of pesticides and chemicals used in the agriculture and other farming sectors, and finally the ever billowing carbon bubbles getting generated from every other act of human development are some of the ways though which our oceans are getting polluted.

When dwindling fish stock stares at the lives of millions, when water needs of a sizeable number of lives on earth go dry, when clocks of rains around the world happen to run back ward or come to halt leading to poor production and food insecurity, when temperature levels cross human and habit endurance, when glaciers come to add to the woes of the seas, threatening the low lying areas and the habitat there, when our coral reefs go extinct slowly and steadily, and eventually when life on earth itself becomes near impossible, we the humans feign ignorance to all these and go on living our lives to our gluttonous full.

Hypocritically, we find it comfortable not to know that it is going to be the beginning of an end. So, before it is too late, we all need to do our shares to save the Oceans. The same way we keep our people aware of environmental pollutions, we have to have a global campaign against aggressions of all types on the seas. June 8 is the most appropriate day to have a start off.

Though the world order is global, when it comes to an attitudinal change of global dimension, it is the individual initiatives that make the bigger difference than what the institutions and international forums and parlays do. International summits, like the one held in Geneva in 1992 or the one that went on in the Bali Island last year, would come, make declarations and go winding them up. Unless we include ourselves in these declarations, unless all humans start talking and thinking in terms of the rest of the humanity in general, life on earth is going to be much more difficult in the coming days.

Making money is easer today than it was before, and this rising power of money has many advantages and disadvantages.

· Do you think its advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
jaypees.visit.www.jpsukham.blogspot.com

No one would deny the fact that making money these days is much easier today than it was before. Money, as we know, is omnipotent, and if wisely managed, the rising power of money can be tapped to reap more advantages than disadvantages. 40 words

We may be able to find several advantages if we take a cursory look at the rising power of money. Primarily, money will make life of all human beings much comfortable because makes almost everything possible. For example, one does not have to die of a disease just because he or she does not have enough money to meet the medical bill. Secondly, all money- based inequalities in the society can be slowly eradicated. That is, people will get better education, living conditions, healthcare and so on. Thirdly, when there are enough opportunities to make money, there will be peace in the society.95 words

Though all is well said, we cannot ignore the fact that money is a double- edged sword. It can save and at the same time it can kill. For example, rising power of money will lead to inflation making cost of living soar to new highs. So unless money-making opportunities are available for all the ones in the community, there will be disparity on the basis of money itself. And man’s greed for more money may lead to competition and conflicts. However, it is a fact that man is intelligent, and if he wisely exploits money, there these darker shades of money could be made brighter. 95 words

Coming to conclusion, it is right to say that money, if justly made and wisely managed, is able to offer greater advantages than disadvantages. The onus lies on how we make use of it; the wiser the better. 35 words

Nations around the world are increasingly realizing the need for promoting a new order among its citizens called, ‘take only what you need and give back to the society whatever you are able to’.

· Why is this new order being promoted now?
· What advantages does a society enjoy out of such an order?

The world today is being threatened by several imbalances and uncertainties due to mindless human activities, the need for a new world order, “take what you need………” is felt today, and if promoted, it would definitely offer great advantages to societies world over. 45 words

It is known world over that future of life in this planet is becoming bleaker, and main reason cited is human greed. This greed makes man indiscriminately exploit the world and its resources. And needless to say, there are shortages of all kinds like food, water, fuel, clean air, accommodation and so on. Unless we learn to live with minimum facilities, and prepare ourselves to return whatever to the society we live in, there is no going to be no tomorrow at all. This is the major reason why nations around the world come to promote this new world order. 95 words.

This world order, in turn, is likely to offer greater advantages. Firstly, the ecology will enjoy a great breather as the pressure on it is bound to decrease because of need-based not greed-based exploitation of resources. Secondly, one man stops amassing things far beyond his needs, and starts returning his due share to the society, there will be great benefits for the less privileged in the world. All the beings will be able to have their due shares for survival. Thirdly, there will be a rare equilibrium in which man is but a part of the ecosystem. Finally, this ecological equilibrium will necessitate harmonious co-existence of flora and fauna. 105 words

The above points make it clear that this new world order is the need of the hour, and the benefits the planet is likely enjoy are more than the cited ones. Of course, our planet is going to be a better place to be in than it is. 45 words

Some say that ills of a particular society are the outcome of that society’s inherent nature itself, whereas there is another argument that it is the ills of the people that make a society what it actually is.

· How do you look at these two points of view?
Jaypees.visit.www.jpsukham.blogspot.com

It is a fact that every society in unique. But when it comes to what constitute the ills of a particular society, there are two major things that come play. They are the inherent nature of the society itself, and the changes the people who occupy it happen to have. 45 words

If we look at these two objectively, it can be proved that both the factors right in more ways than one. To prove the point, let me quote an example. Indian society is inherently patriarchic, and its being male dominant makes it suffer from a lot of ills. They are, primarily, dowry, gender based discrimination, domestic violence, female feticide, aggression on women and so on. These are very serious social ills. And not many would deny the fact these ills happen to decide what Indian society actually is. India is what it inherently is. 95 words

If we look at from another angle, we can find that India society is presently suffering from a lot many other ills. For example, Indian society is now suffering from ills like corruption, materialism, consumerism, falling traditional values, disregard for elders, aggression on nature, greed and gross violation of spiritual ways etc. Undoubtedly, these ills give Indian society a different look. So it is right to say that these ills are results of the changes the community happens to inherit out of influence from external agencies like power of money, westernization, market and corporate culture to mention a few. 95 words

Therefore, it may be opined that inherent characteristics of a given society give it a set of ills whereas there is another set of ills, which are man made. And it can be concluded that inherent ills and acquired ones are equally contributory in making a society what it actually is. 45 words

Some people believe that luck is something that favours a select few people, while others are of opinion that is the result of sheer hard work.

How do you look at these two viewpoints? Prove your points with examples
jaypees.doc.www.jpsukham.blogspot.com

Though luck makes great differences in the lives of some people, there are differing views on whether luck is something that favours a few or it is the outcome of hard-work. An objective analysis may reveal that it is hard work that makes even the luckiest stay so all through his or her life. 45 words

It is obvious that luck favours some in the form of opportunities, unexpected wealth, birth right or providence. Some people are lucky by birth, some get lucky when they make use of the opportunities rightly, and there are some who happen to be lucky by winning some raffles or lotteries. In all the cases, being merely lucky is not enough to be successful all through one’s life. For example, if a poor man, who happens to get a million dollar lottery, is not able to manage that fortune effectively, he will end up nowhere and he may even become poorer than what he was. 90 words

On the other hand, there are innumerable examples to prove that some people are lucky just because of their grit, determination and hard-work. What makes them lucky is nothing but their being able to identify the hidden fire in them. Once it is identified, they would do everything possible to foster it and get the best out of it. For example, our former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam had a very humble beginning. But he was able to identify the scientist in him in his very early age itself. He kept on chasing that dream through great difficulties. He later proved himself to be not only lucky but world-famous as well. Had he not been working harder, would he have ever been lucky or popular? No. 100 words

So, looking at both the angles, it is right to conclude that luck is something that needs to be identified rightly and pursued relentlessly through hard work. Of course, there may be stray instances in which one may remain lucky with no reason at all. But real luck never happens to someone who is not hard-working. 45 words
