Well, we all need to horn some skills in our life.

Some are able to master all the skills they wish to learn.

Some others fail in some.

The same, way I too wished to learn a skill.

It was driving.

And I wanted to learn it while I was doing my higher education.

And I had even made arrangements with a driving school.

And as per the arrangement, I was supposed to undergo road training for 30 days, and my master wanted me to be ready in the early morning, at 6.00 every day.

Unfortunately, that was not the right time for me, and the school was not able to give me a suitable time either.

Somehow I attended a few days’ classes.

And after a few days, I turned irregular, and it went on for a long time, and finally, I was forced to quit that effort midway through.

And now, at times, I feel that I had made a big mistake.

Now we have a car, and my brother and father drive it. But sadly enough, my liking for driving is still there, it gets intense whenever I see them drive.

Sadly enough, now I find it more difficult to go for driving class than it was before when I went attending, and later abandoned.           2 mnts.

A piece of jewelry, your favourite jewelry

Well, I like jewelry, and like any one else,

I have my own favourite jewelry, too.

It is a bangle-cum wristwatch.

Actually it is a gift.

And it was presented to me by my father

On my graduation day.

As I said earlier it is a two in one piece.

It primarily looks like a bangle,

But on closer look one can see a small case

which is oval in shape, and that case carries

a cute sparkling dial in it.

It looks like a human eye, and the inside of which is extremely beautiful with its time indicators, sparkling as they are of stone.

Something interesting about this particular watch is that it makes a beep every hour.

And my reasons for liking are many.

Firstly, it is a present from my father.

Secondly, it reminds me of my graduation day.

And thirdly, it is really precious cost-wise and other wise. Well, what what else is there about it?

Yeah, yes, it can be opended and closed, in the sense that I don’t have to push it in, rather I can open it and close it on my wrist

Yes, that is all about my favourite piece of jewelry.

A landmark in your place

Yes, my place is known for a few prominent spots

like churches, old buildings and new high-rises.

The landmark I am going speak about is called

Shrine of Fr. Kuriakose Elias, one of our Christian priests

who lived in the middle of the 20^th century. He is said to have had many mysterious personal traits. 

And this particular shrine is located some five kilometers off my house. The name of the place is called Mannanam.

This shrine is atop a small hillock/mount, so that this shrine stands prominent, and is identifiable from long distance as well.

This is actually a pilgrim center, and Christians from different parts of the state come to visit this landmark.

And coming to it, it displays the belongings of Fr. Kuriakose, and there is a small room in which all his books and furniture items are displayed.

And in one corner of it, there is a small cabin which carries the Spectacle, pen, and a few communications he had had from the British.

And I would say, this place is almost named after this shrine.

Speak about your dream destination

·       When do you want to be there?

·       Why do you want to be there?

Well, frankly speaking, I would like to be in many distant locations.  Places like, say, Sidney, Wales, Rome and so on.

Among them, I wish to be in Sidney, Australia.

Actually it has always been my dream to be there,

And I have been striving hard to get myself prepared for the same, and, I would say, this test itself is part of the same. And my plan is to be there in a year or so.

Yes, there are many reasons for my liking towards this place.

I have heard from many sources, like media, Internet and of course from my friends that Sidney is an exotic destination

and it offers something for every one.

For professionals, it is a metropolis of opportunities, for students the city offers many academic facilities, and for travelers, Sidney is a shopping enclave and so goes the list of things that Sidney offers.

And finally, my particular interest towards this place is mainly based on my profession. It is said that Australia is running short of qualified medical professionals.

And I, being one, am very much interested in pursuing a career there. And I am hopeful that I would be able to be there in the immediate future.

That is all about the distant place I would like to be in.

If you live in Britain, as I do, it doesn't take long to realise that whatever direction you take, it isn't long before you reach the sea. And of course if you don't like flying, as I don't, and you want to travel to another country, you have to cross that strip of water between England and France called the Channel. It will come as no surprise therefore that this mass of water we call "sea" and all the things people do on it have had a great influence on daily language.

In terms of expressions where the word "sea" itself appears, the emphasis is on its great size. After all more of the earth is covered with water than land and it wasn't that long ago when people thought that once you went over the horizon in your boat, you fell off the end of the world!

Imagine that you've just started in a new job and only a few days later you find yourself alone in your place of work. Then the telephone rings and you very nervously answer it. You get asked lots of questions. You don't know the answers and you don't know where anything is kept. You are totally confused and can't help the caller -- "You are all at sea."

At lunchtime you feel you must have something to eat after all the problems you've had and you go into the firm's canteen. The trouble is that as you're new, you don't know anyone and the place is full of hundreds of people and you think they're all looking at you. You go down the stairs and can see this enormous number of unknown faces -- "a sea of faces".

Let me finish with an expression some hundreds of years old created by our greatest national poet, Shakespeare, which is still very much in use today. When we want to talk about a dramatic alteration taking place that affects many people like for example the ending of apartheid in South Africa, we call this in Shakespeare's words -- "a sea change." And now as it's high summer, I'd like to go for a long walk in the countryside but I can't really because as well as being surrounded by sea in this small island, we have a few problems with another mass of water inland too -- in other words it's raining!

Technology has developed enough, and modern man can do without further technological innovations.

Do you agree or disagree with this?

The technology we have today is the technology we need today. Therefore, it is wrong to support the view that it has come full circle; rather man cannot but go on innovating. Let me prove it.

Firstly, the very claim that technology has developed enough is premature in the sense that what ever technology we enjoy today are not overnight happenings, rather there have been relentless efforts down the ages, and now we have come to a state where things look comfortable. This does not mean that there is no scope or need for anymore innovations.

As a matter of fact, innovations have never had any saturation point, and what we enjoy today are the continuation of what our predecessors had been able to developed, enjoyed and handed over to us. Obviously, the present has the duty to take the process forward which, in turn, demands further progress. For example, we cannot take an old thing or a thing of the present to the future without developing it to meet the needs of the future.

The other thing is, the needs we have today may not be the needs people tomorrow are going to have. The global population is getting bigger, human needs are getting diversified and living conditions are bound to change. In such a volatile future scenario, how can man be staying away from further innovations? Impossible, I believe.

Let me conclude by citing an example. Medical science has developed a lot, and we boast of great remedies for many life threatening diseases. Still is it fair to say that there is nothing to be developed? Even now we do not have enough remedies for certain medical conditions. Obviously, man cannot do without further innovations. Bettering life is a basic human instinct.

 Domenic Cole's essay on public sports funding: for international sportsmen or for local sports enthusiasts.

In these times of austerity, there is much debate as to how public funds for sport should be spent. My own view is that a balance needs to be struck between funding of international stars and the provision of financial support at the grassroots level.
There is an obvious case to be made for using public money to fund grassroots sport. The major argument for this is that these funds should be used to help as many members of society as possible. This can be best achieved by supporting local sports events which are available to the whole community. For example, if there was a governmental programme to encourage children to receive a few hours training in a sport of their choice, this would potentially benefit all families. It could also help with the fight against obesity, which would be a valuable use of public money.
There is also, however, a good case to be made for giving financial support to international sports stars. One rationale for this is how successful international athletes can help give a country a positive image, both at home and abroad. For instance, most people in the UK would consider the investment in supporting athletes for the 2012 Olympics to be highly worthwhile. It is also worth considering how international sports stars act as positive role models for young people and this can encourage them to take up sport.
In conclusion, I disagree with the statement in the question as I do not believe that it is the case that public money should be spent either at the international or grassroots level, rather it should apportioned between them both.

Man will have greater amount of free time in the days to come than he has today, thanks to various newer time saving machines.

Man’s need for free time has always been high, and time saving machines help him out as well. But the thing, in my opinion, is that he is not going to enjoy any more free time tomorrow even if there would be more efficient time saving devices than there are today.

The primary point with which I am going to support my stance is that man has always complained of timelessness. Let me cite and example. Today, unlike in the past, we enjoy enormous time saving machinery, and the time saved thereby is not taken as free time, rather we tend to convert that saved time into money or money time.

Secondly, tomorrow man will be leading a still more sophisticated life which will be costlier and more demanding than what it is today. In such a milieu, no single thing would come cheap, and he will have to shell out greater amounts to make his life up-to his individual expectations. What I mean is he will have to find huge amounts which, in turn, would demand for further application of time. Finally, it would not be an exaggeration to add that, if at all there is a little free time for some tomorrow, not for all, it will be more occupied with technology.

It is thus proved with evidences and examples that man is not going to have more free time in the ages to come. Though more time saving machines are in the pipeline for replacing human efforts still further, free time will be at a premium for sure.

The principles that govern medicine in some countries discourage all forms of advertisements that aim at promoting medical services.

Medical ethics differ from country to country and medical advertisements are not welcome in some places. This essay is an attempt to see why the case is so, and to prove that such advertising can do a few favours for the public.

Let me see why some nations say no to medical advertisements. The first thing I find is that some unscrupulous medical service providers may hoodwink the not-so-informed people by running advertising campaigns with misleading information. For example, some incurable diseases may get projected as curable, and victims of such diseases may get exploited.

Secondly, it is not fair for any practitioner to claim that a medical condition can be completely cured off. This is primarily because all medicines do have differing effects on different patients. Let me take an example to make it clearer. There is no medicine with a set of effects or side effects that are uniform for all the patients. Here as well, medical advertising may mislead people resulting in medication without the projected results.  

All these potential reasoning notwithstanding, I think medical advertising can help people in a way or two. For example, when a particular treatment is advertised, people may get to know where it is available and how affordable it is. Secondly, in all medical regimes, going for a second opinion is a common practice. To exemplify, there are cases where more accurate diagnoses have been possible, and many patients have got right treatments upon a second opinion, might be thanks to a response to a medical advertising.

In short, it is not without reason some nations say ‘no’ to medical advertising. The reasoning apart, there are cases where medical promotion exercises are of help. I have proved it with evidences and examples.  In my view, selective advertising may be allowed.
