Though tourism is construed to be helping people in many ways, some people tend to look at it with suspicion on the assumption that tourism is only for the rich or the better off of the society.

How do you look at these two views?

Tourism in general is helpful, but it is a fact that these days, it is getting confined more to the likes and demands of the better off than to the downtrodden. However, wise management of tourism may be helpful for all.

If we look at tourism positively, we can see innumerable examples to prove that it is helping man in several different ways. For example, tourism primarily is a stress reliever for all. Secondly, it is one of the fast growing industries around the world generating employment and revenue. Thirdly, it is right to say that tourism is a unifying force by way of its being able to make people and culture meet and interact. And finally, it is not an exaggeration to say that tourism helps solve disputes and promote international relations.

However, the apprehension that tourism s confined to the richer section of the society is not unfounded either. We can see several examples to prove this. For instance, quality tourism opportunities are highly expensive so that greater section of the population does not get to enjoy it. Secondly, a great number of tourism facilities are developed and maintained for foreigners and their currencies. Thirdly, tourism operators have a tendency to keep their price tags unaffordable to common man. This is undemocratic and unethical.

To conclude it, it may be said that right attitude to tourism is what is needed now because it is a potential source of income and entertainment. But there needs to be a system in place to make it democratic as far as possible.
