Better teacher-student understanding and student-friendly academic ambience will be able to remove corporal punishment from schools for ever.
How far do you agree or disagree with this?
There is saying: “spare the rode and spoil the child”. But studies show that sparing the rod may save a child, not spoil one. Since this finding goes exactly in line with the idea that teacher-student-friendly academic milieu will spare the rod for ever, I for one stand for such a student-friendly school.
Corporal punishment as a correction aid in schools had been in practice for long. But now there is a great shift in people’s attitude towards it, and there are not many takers for this. Great many people believe that punishing children is nothing short of what we call ‘crime against humanity’.
In this context, I would like to state that no punishment is able to make any substantial change in a student, but he or she happens to undergo great strain, stress and humiliation. This in turn makes one suffer from it all throughout one’s life. For example, there are case studies that show that a number of criminals had a history punishment at schools.
On the other hand, if there is student-friendly academic atmosphere, children of any make may comply, and such an amicable learning platform is bound to make far reaching changes in their life in terms of performance, character and attitude. I believe that these are the very factors that make a student successful in life. A rode should not stand on their way.
Concluding it, I find it right to say that punishing children is against their will and personal freedom, and it is to be discouraged at any cost. Let’s spare the rod and save all children who behave the way children should.
