1.
Men and women are entirely different in several different ways. Therefore, gender parity is not at all possible, whereas they are so contributing each other that gender participation is very much possible.
Discuss both the views.
This discussion is as old as man. Still it remains heated as well. However, when I look at the first view, I find it reasonable and the second one on gender participation is really worth trying. This will do great service to both the genders per se.
2.
Some people believe that equal gender participation is able to do much more for the general human wellbeing than what gender equality per se is said to be able to do.
To what extent do you agree with this view?
There are different opinions on what makes general human life better: is it gender parity or participation? I for one am of the opinion that, in these times of opportunities and cooperation, it is better to be participating than claiming to be at par, the latter does not sound possible.
3.
Though much is said and spoken about gender equality across the world, the fact remains that it is not gender equality that is going to make changes in human well being but better gender participation.
How far can you support this idea?
Gender equality is a bone of contention around the world. However, of late, there is a fresh look at this issue that concludes that it is gender participation, not gender parity that makes real changes in human life. I find the idea worth supporting to a greater extent.
4.
There is a strong belief that boys and girls pick up the basics of gender disparity from their homes.
How far is this true in your place?
Gender consciousness is something genetic. However, when it comes to the basic of gender disparity and parity, family does have a greater role than anything else. Since lessons from the family get ingrained deeper in everyone, gender parity does not look possible.
5.
Some social scientists are of the opinion that children are likely to understand the need for equal gender participation in real life if their parents are prepared to allow their children to actively participate in all domestic chores.
How do you look at this opinion?
Do you think gender participation is of some value?
Equal gender engaging is not likely to take place unless there is initiative from family itself. This may be by engaging children in all domestic duties. Obviously, gender participation is of greater value today than ever, and our social scientists’ view sounds genuine to me too.

1. It is argued that right to employment is a fundamental right and, if a State fails to engage its educated and productive manpower in some worthwhile income generating mode, it may be deemed as a case of violation of human rights.
· Argue for and against this view.
The argument that right to employment is a fundamental right is well founded because the educated are the ones who keep the nation growing. So their employment is the responsibility of the State. However, opinions differ when we take it as a violation of rights if the state fails in it.
2. Promoting and protecting the health of women is of greater importance in terms of social welfare not only for the health of present generation but also for all the generations to come.
· Substantiate this argument with evidence to support it.
· How can we promote and protect the health of women?
Social welfare involves several factors, and most important one among them is the health status of people. In this respect, ensuring women’s health is more important than anything else. This is for today and for tomorrow, too. Of course, there are ways to achieve this goal.

6. Better teacher-student understanding and student-friendly academic ambience will be able to remove corporal punishment from schools for ever.
How far do you agree or disagree with this?
There is saying: “spare the rode and spoil the child”. But studies show that sparing the rod may save a child, not spoil one. Since this finding goes exactly in line with the idea that teacher-student-friendly academic milieu will spare the rod for ever, I for one stand for such a student-friendly school.
7. Tourism is a platform on which distance and diversity work as instruments that promotes unity and understanding among people - irrespective of their being what they are and where they are from.
· How far are you going to endorse this statement?
Tourism has always been a strong force that has promoted cooperation and understanding among the populace for ages. What ever is the tourism a place promotes, the force behind it has always been distance and diversity. This is what is going on today too. That is what I feel.
8. Starting up a career much earlier is taken by some as highly advantageous, whereas there are others who take it the other way round.
· How advantageous or disadvantageous is it in your opinion?
In these times of career opportunities, it is rather easy to say that early career is better. However, this write up makes an attempt to find out what all advantages and disadvantages early career selection offers people today.

It is true that there is a spurt in infrastructure development, especially in real estate, and it can be seen everywhere in developing nations. This boom can be attributed to many factors, and the same has far reaching impacts on the environment.
10 Many celebrities, like film-stars and sports icons, are found to be endorsing consumer products and services, both harmful and useful, marketed by multinational companies. This tendency promotes unhealthy shopping practices.
How far is it justifiable that celebrities go for paid endorsements?
What are the impacts of the resultant unhealthy shopping practices?
Marketing organizations adopt many tricks to promote their sales. One such trick is celebrity endorsement. This is very common now. But it is really hard to justify them go for paid endorsements. It creates unhealthy shopping tendencies, and the same will lead to many consequences.
11. Though aqua-tourism prospects are widely being exploited world over, it is a fact that this tourism is doing much more harm than good to the people and ecology. So it needs to be discouraged.
· How far do you agree or disagree with this?
It is a fact that aqua tourism, as a tourism genre, is doing great harm to people and ecology since it operates on water. So the need for discouraging it is important, but we cannot simply ignore its potential though.
12. There is an argument that, since every child is unique with different talents and interests, making all children follow a uniform courseware in school is to be discouraged.
Argue for and against this.
Giving right education to the young is a complex affair. When it comes to individual talents and tastes, this becomes more complex. So it is natural that there are differing views about the feasibility of following a uniform syllabus for all students.

Falling oil levels pose a great threat to the world in general. In order offset this burgeoning issue, some people suggest that rationing fuel is a good idea so that oil consumption can be cut down drastically.
Essay 071
How do you look at rationing of fuel?
What are the problems you see in its commercial implementation?
Not many would deny the fact that oil saved is oil produced. Therefore, saving oil or keeping the oil levels across the world steady is of paramount importance. In this respect, rationing fuel in my opinion is excellent idea, though there are a few practical difficulties.
Rationing is a system through which individuals are allowed get certain quantity of fuel for a stipulated period. This idea is excellent in more ways than one. Primarily, it makes people extremely conscious of the need for managing oil resources wisely. Secondly, wastage by way of unnecessary burning done by youngsters who take pleasure ride just for fun. Thirdly, oil ration cards would mean that certain measure of oil is assured to everyone round the year. And finally, reduced consumption will lead to reduced production which in turn would keep the oil levels from falling to alarming low levels.
All these finer sides notwithstanding, we cannot ignore the problems when it is commercially implemented. First of all, issuing fuel cards to all licensed automobile users is a huge task involving great amount of investment, infrastructure and technology. This situation is further aggravated by the fact that, if there is a technical snag, the whole distribution network would come to a stand still. A nation cannot afford to be halted by such a failure. And, finally, profit driven oil firms may not be happy with limited sales.
Looking at both the aspects, it may be concluded that rationing fuel is the need of the hour as the system is bound to make the planet breathe easy with enough oil for the coming generation. Of course, the problems need to be seriously looked into.

Some social scientists say that poor nations need to enact a law enforcing minimum number of children a family can have, and thereby enabling the State to withdraw support for the additional child/children in matters like education, employment and healthcare.
Essay 110
How far can you agree with such a law?
Do you think it is right to withdraw support for all additional children?
It is a matter of great concern that population is increasing phenomenally in third world nations. In such a state of affairs, a law on population control is timely, and I find it agreeable to a greater extent. But, I cannot support the provision that the State can deny support to extra child/children.
Rising population is no good anymore. There are several different measures being implemented to curtail population growth. But the impact of such measures is not visible either. Therefore, a law on minimum number of children is timely and worth considering. Firstly, when people come to understand that State wouldn’t support additional children, there would be change of attitude towards having more children. And there will be visible changes in all walks of life thanks to stabilizing population rates. For example, this law is already in force in China, and there are evidences to prove that it works in there.
However, I find it difficult to support State’s denying support to extra child/children. My one and only argument against this idea is this, that the factors that make a family have a certain number of children are more powerful than the provisions of a law. For example, social status, gender preferences, personal likes, family obligations and so on would make parents go for more children. Undoubtedly, such children would come to millions and no welfare State can ignore their well being. Therefore, simply cannot endorse such a provision.
So, to conclude it, a law on minimum number of children is good in many ways, but the State has to support additional children conditionally. If this is done, a law on small family norm would have greater number of takers in the days to come.

List of environmental problems:
Today the earth’s environment is in a sorry state. Wherever one looks, one encounters pollution. Forests are disappearing. The green patches in the city are being replaced by concrete buildings. Wastes are being dumped indiscriminately. Water is too toxic to drink. The air is unfit to breathe in. Global warming has become a menacing issue. There is a question mark over the survival of life on the earth. The human race is at the brink of a self-created disaster. Truly there is a surfeit of environmental problems today. There are a number of significant environmental problems today. They are as follows:
Loss of forest cover. Forest are being cut down for timber, construction and for obtaining extra agricultural land.
Air pollution. This is caused by polluting industries and vehicular traffic. Burning incinerators, furnaces and stoves cause it. Wind is responsible for spreading air pollution. The Ozone layer has been damaged because of the use of CFC’s (Chlorofluorocarbons) which are used in a number of industrial, commercial, and household applications.
Water pollution. Industries and factories release toxic wastes into the water. Leakage from oil tankers causes pollution of the sea. Pesticides and fertilizers also cause water pollution. Sewage released by cities into water bodies. It is predicted that there will be conflicts among nations because water will become scarce.
Overpopulation. The increase in human population increases demands for the water resources. More land is required for housing. There is increased demand for food for which more agricultural land is needed. More fuel is required. More automobiles cause more pollution.
Erosion of soil. When trees and plants are destroyed that causes increase in soil erosion.
Climate change and Global warming. Human activities cause climate change like increase in temperature. Many animal and plant species may be destroyed by climate change.
Introduction of genetically modified species. Humans are tinkering with the genes of various plants and animals. We do not fully understand how the introduction of new species will affect the environment.
When human aggression pressurizes the Planet, his fellow beings bear the brunt. The most unfortunate thing is, if our bees we find next flower dies out totally, human life will be impossible within five years’ time. But even if all humans die out, not even a single other species will suffer. They all will live happily ever after. Man is the most dependant species on the planet. Shouldn’t we mend our ways with our environment?

Developing nations are found to be showing great interest in hosting international sports extravaganzas like Olympics and Common Wealth games.
How advantageous is it to be hosting such events?
What are the major challenges these nations face?
Hosting international sports events is not something that happens every year. they are once-in-a-blue moon events. Obviously, being host to such mega spectacles enables nations to reap great benefits, and there are challenges too.
The primary benefit in my opinion is the international attention a nation enjoys. This happens by way of media cover, participation from nations across the world, tourist attraction, trade and commerce and so goes the list.
Secondly, it is a rare opportunity to showcase the nation in front of the world, and proclaim that the nation is able to take up responsibilities as big as hosting of Olympics or Common Wealth games. For example, South Africa was showing the world community that it was a nation to reckon with by hosting 2010 Football World Cup. Thirdly, there are enormous possibilities for infrastructure development too. This does not happen very often. No wonder, there is great competition from poor nations for such platforms.
However, such platforms do not come cheap. There are huge challenges. How about hosting world famous billion dollar sports celebrities and legends in a place? Their stay, security, mobility, entertainment, safe return etc. are too much for any poor nation. Same way, it is all the more difficult to manage a heterogeneous community of sports fans that may come around to appreciate the event. Their basic needs, like food, transport, hospital, shopping, safe stay, return and the like are nothing but neck wracking responsibilities, I would rather say, challenges.
Concluding it, it is right to say that all the challenges notwithstanding, it really pays to be a host. That is what makes poor nations vie hard to get a chance for hosting international events.

Tackle IELTS Reading Tactfully
Jaypee’s document posted third time on 23.9.010
What are you reading My Lord?
“Words, Words, Words”
The instructions, tools, keys, tips and tricks or whatever explained here are purely based on a number of tests I have done myself. Many of them are general instructions that could be right, sometimes wrong. Still, the possibility of getting a right answer is more if you follow these seriously. One more thing, reading involves a lot of reading. You have to have great reading skills like fast reading, reading for specific information, reading between lines, reading for a general idea, skimming the passage and the like. Please keep your knowledge on vocabulary, say synonyms, antonyms, equivalent phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions and at times some linguistic peculiarities of some words etc. may be of great use while doing reading.
Be a good reader to do better in reading. There is no short cut to the same. And don’t think that the following tips are shortcuts to a better score. All good scores are the result of the amount of related work done towards the given module. Listening, writing and speaking to mention the other modules in the IELTS. Good luck to you all.
General instructions
1. Never ever leave an entry vacant. There is no negative marking. Guess and write.
2. Write your answers neatly. Don’t leave out letters, apostrophes, prepositions and similar niceties of the language. It is a language testing exam.
3. Manage your time tactfully. Though all sections give you equal time, it is a good idea to finish the first section within 15/16/17/18/19 minutes, the second section in 18/19 minutes and finish the last section in 20 minutes. Utilize the remaining minutes to cross check your answer for spelling errors, singular plural errors, question sequences; that is you have written the answers exactly against the corresponding question numbers.
4. Remember reading does not give you 10 minutes at the end of the exam. You have to write your answers in the answer sheet as you go on reading.
5. The most important thing: read the instructions and questions prior to reading the text. This will give you clues to answers. Type of the question, number of words, etc. are vital in doing reading.
One of five
Here are some ways to do it:
Primarily, you have to have an attitude towards reading whatever literature you happen to put your hands on.
Secondly, read analytically, look how different people put in ideas differently. And finally, inculcate a sense of language as you go through different passages every time. Reading skill is a matter of patience, practice and attitude.
Reading: paragraph heading:
· 80 % paragraph headings could be located either from the first one/two sentences or the last one/two sentences of every paragraph.
· In these paragraphs, the first and last phrases of the sentences are more important than the rest of the sentences.
· This is because most of the time, the last/first phrases of these sentences happen to answer the questions that follow paragraph heading.
· Then look for the key worlds given in the headings and check if these key words are there in the first and last sentences.
· Some paragraphs go on describing an idea without giving any emphasis on any part of the paragraphs, say at the beginning or middle or end. These paragraphs are really confusing, and do not waste your time in such paragraphs. You have the freedom to write wrong answers, as you do not want 9 out of 9.
1. Beware of these following words: however, still, on the other hand, yet, but, on the contrary, similarly and in the same way. Whenever you find these words in a given paragraph, identify the idea put in there, for these ideas will be tools for framing other questions.
2. And the other questions will be framed with enough confusion so it is a good idea to read this area grammatically as well as analytically.
3. A good number of yes, no, not given, true, false, information is not given and the like questions are found to be created from these areas where you find these words.
4. These words give twists and turns and stops and starts to new ideas, comparison, generalization, conclusion and at times contradictions.
· Look out for italicized words, single quoted, double quoted words and phrases. They most of the time are answers or tools for questions.
· Strange words: sometimes proper nouns, unfamiliar expressions following an explanation will give you hints to locate a gap fill answer.
· When you find a particular word’s synonymous words or expression/s in the question, beware there will be a great possibility for an answer.
· Phrasal verbs are tracked in questions of true or false nature and you have to have some ideas about phrasal verbs. Two of five
· When you get answers like, no, not given, no, write the fourth one Yes. Or on the other hand, you get, yes, yes and no, serially, write the fourth one not given. And finally, you have been able to find answers like yes, no, not given and no, and you have only one question left, write yes. You may use your common sense in this case.
· As you go on reading, locate and underline strong thoughts, prominent ideas, their explanations and examples. Forget about those phrases that you find really difficult to understand. When there is an example used by the author, he is proving a point. There will an answer.
1. When it comes to multiple choice, do the following things wisely.
2. Read the question quizzically and analytically concentrating on the English of the question.
3. As you go on looking for the right answers, spare some time to locate the possible wrong ones. Eliminate them right-away. Elimination of the wrong ones will help you locate the right one.
4. In all multiple choices, there will be one option without any reference to the question. There will be two options; one right and the other misleadingly similar. Here you have to be clever.
5. Please identify the use of negatives and double negatives, either in the question or in their answers. This is a tricky way of creating questions.
6. And the next option is a critical one, but it is worth trying: If you find that all four answers are equally confusing or you are not able to tell apart which one is more right or wrong, pick out the longest answer and write the corresponding letter, a, b, c or d.
7. The above trick is applicable mostly when the shortest answer is not coming close to the right answer.
8. Last question will be from the last paragraph and most of the time at the last sentence. And to be precise, the last phrase will give you tips to an answer for sure.
9. If the last paragraph is so small, say a single long sentence, the answer will be at the end of the sentence.
10. The last word or the phrase will be an answer or a tip to an answer.
11. If a paragraph begins a small sentence less that half-line long. It is a key.
Gap fills:
· Read out the left and right of the gap to find out the type of word. A singular, plural, past of present or future form, noun or adjective,
· Check if the gap completes the sentences.
· Or if the gap begins a sentence. Words like, however, importantly …..
· Cancel out the used words if one word cannot be used two or more times.
Three of five
· If the instructions tell you that you can use a word as many times as you want, please note that there will be a word which could be used 2 times.
· Remember, if a particular word that begins a sentence in the body text comes at the end of a given question, please note the answer can be reciprocated like, active and passive forms will be used, be careful here. This reverse question is easy to answer if you know a little about active and passive voices.
· There are many examples to show you one fact that a sentence or a phrase that has helped you find one answer or paragraph heading, will be key to one or more following questions like yes or no, true or false or not given. It is a better idea to note the key sentences.
Matching phrases with corresponding phrases:
Read the question phrase/s carefully, grammatically and quizzically.
1. Check if the phrase is looking for a singular match or a plural match, past or present match.
2. Check if the question phrase has a noun in it, so that the equivalent could be traced in the matching phrase.
3. Cancel out the used phrase.
4. Check if the question phrase is an if clause, if yes, you may look for its main clause.
5. The other way round is also possible, here you may look for the conditional clause.
6. Check if the question phrase is a negative or positive one. This will help you.
Yes, no, not given and information not given
· Beware of double negatives and negatives in the body text and their corresponding questions. Not in any way possible…Not that he dislikes it…. It is not in the inability but in the lack of attitude etc. It is not always impossible to reach at a conclusion…
· There will be one direct yes question and one direct no question. The not given question often has a strange/alien phrase with a little resemblance to one of the main ideas discussed. Here you have to be analytical. So such questions give you outright hints to say, not given is the answer.
· Imagine you have 5 such questions, and you got all four different answers but the unrepresented one is either yes, or no, or not given. Whatever it is write it.
· Ideas for No questions are normally taken from a long sentence, but a following small sentence or a question will give clues to it.
Paraphrasing is very important. Summarizing the thought in a few sentences or summarizing a sentence into a phrase or converting a phrase into a word etc. The last part is important, as there are some answers with word limits. When you get the idea from a long phrase or a small sentence, you have to meaningfully summarize it into the given word limit. Four of five
Distribution of questions among the sections and time management
Look at the number of questions in each section. If the first section has only ten, you can do it in 10 to 13 minutes. If the number of question is 15 or more, go for serious reading, you may have to use all 20 minutes for the same.
Follow the thought of the topic. And track the paragraphs in accordance with the sequence of questions. Most of the time questions are sequentially prepared.
Remember: every reading is an opportunity to learn more about reading. So never ever forget to develop a reading habit. No matter what you read, it is whether you read something or not, that matters.
Knowledge on the following is must.
· Basic English grammar
· Punctuation
· Synonyms and antonyms
· Negative and positive forms
· Active and passive forms
· Idiomatic expressions
· Phrasal verbs and their corresponding main verbs
· Spelling and number consciousness
· And a sense of reading, the ability to infer meanings out of phrases, expressions, sounds, tones and explanations.

Population ageing has emerged as the greatest challenge of this century for policy makers, care providers and society as a whole.
How is this problem getting reflected in your society?
What do you think are the major challenges the elderly face today?
It is a matter of great concern that, thanks to developments in the field of medicine, diagnostics and healthcare, people live longer leaving all nations across the world at a disadvantage. This is not different in my place, and problems the elderly face are different.
As per a UN demographic data, our country India is expected to house 198 million people above 60 years in the year 2030. Needless to say, this is a challenge for all across the nation. In this part of the world, we have nuclear family system in place in the place of joint family. This shift from crowded families to families of a few, say three or four, makes the life of the elderly really miserable. For example, now many of them are in old age homes, some are under the mercy of carers in isolated natal homes and some others are living miserably in the fringes of nuclear families, exposed to many challenges.
These challenges differ markedly. Still there are a few common ones. The first one is isolation. This is due to their being alone even when they are in crowds. Secondly, it is the absence of emotional and physical support. For example, their grandchildren are away, children are after their lives, the milieu is one of race and changes and their health status is at the mercy of medication and paid service. Above all, all the elderly suffer from the most severe psychological trauma called the fear of the unknown. They expect the worst at any moment. Should we say they remain challenged?
To conclude, the challenge the graying population poses is manageable provided the healthy and younger ones of the world understand the fact that they are going to be elderly in the days to come.

Written letter as a means of personal communication has ceased to exist, and its place is taken by several other forms of communication. This is both advantageous and disadvantageous.
How advantageous or disadvantageous is this development in your opinion?
google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Not many people write letters today, and the times of personal letter is almost gone. Naturally, there are innumerable other options at hand. This transition is both advantageous and disadvantageous.
Being faster is the order of the day, and reaching messages in time, whether personal or otherwise, is of extreme importance. Obviously, modern digital possibilities like mobiles, internet and its virtual interactive portals make modern mean stay connected much better than what letter would have made him. Reaching people at anytime, anywhere and in no time is too much to expect from personal letters. Therefore, it is advantageous to have newer possibilities.
However, the fact remains that letter as a means of personal communication had been a cultural thing for centuries, and this tool had been able to keep people attached each other more intimately, sentimentally, emotionally and even intellectually. Besides, the art of writing letters has enabled great men to effect decisive changes in people.
For example, Jawaharlal Nehru’s letters, written to his daughter Indira Gandhi while the former was in jail, were not mere letters; rather they were personal visits to his daughter. The person, his or her handwriting, language and its niceties, the anxious waiting for it etc. had been part of all humans down the ages. But newer ways have taken it away, and, no doubt, it is disadvantageous that we no longer use it.
To conclude it, it is right to say that there is no change that does not have some negative impacts. So is the case with personal letters. They have almost gone making its lovers a little anguished. However, the alternatives we enjoy today are fairly advantageous as well.

Task II
Some people say that right schooling is enough to make a child grow into a good human being whereas there is another view that it is right parenting that makes it possible.
Discuss both the views and put in your opinion?
Raising child into a good human being involves a lot many things. Among them right parenting is one and school is another. Though right parenting is of some significance, I feel that it is right schooling that holds the sway a little more.
Let me find out what schooling can do in this respect. Firstly, school is a system with so many possibilities for a child to grow into what he or she actually is. For example, teachers are able to mould children by identifying their hidden strengths, and the same strength may later make the child what s/he actually is in this world for.
Secondly, since children spend a sizeable amount of their time with teachers and a community of boys and girls from different faiths, statuses and family values - there is great possibility for a child to undergo a transformation into a good human being. Teachers are a great force to reckon with.
All the influence of right schooling notwithstanding, if parents are good human beings with right attitude towards their children and their life, parents can work wonders in this connection. For example, if parents are virtuous and of great values, their children are bound to become good human beings. However, the fact remains that it is right schooling that helps parents materialize their efforts. It is a process organized by parents and rightly executed by schooling.
“It takes a village to raise a child” so goes the adage. That means raising children into real human beings involves several factors. Among them, the prominent ones are right schooling and parenting. Parents and schooling are just two parts of any village.

Free movement of market, men and material across the world is taken as an opportunity by some people, but some others are of the opinion that it has made the world suffer from countless problems.
How genuine are these views in your opinion?
Borderless movement is the order of the day, and the same is going to stay, too. Naturally, there are differing views on its merits and demerits. What I feel is that is more an opportunity than a problem. I can prove it too.
Let me explain what all opportunities such a movement offers people. Firstly, it is market interplay. Nations both rich are poor interact and benefit each other by way employment, tax and market penetration. Secondly, it is the movement of human resource. Human resource is a perishable one, but today, there are opportunities across the world to make use of ones potentials for the welfare of the whole world. Being able to use one’s intellectual and physical strengths is much better than not using or under-using them. Thirdly, a free world order makes developments faster, so does the socio-economic conditions of the world.
However, all is not well with this all encompassing world order. There is rich poor divide getting widened thanks to movement of resources to more productive lands. Secondly, poor nations become unattractive even to its population due to the attractions offered by the world outside. Thirdly, there are cultural and traditional values that get deteriorated, and some of them even get extinct too. However, the fact remains that these are effects of changes and influences.
To conclude it, since this changed order of the day is bound to be here for long, and there is no scope for any U turn, it is a good idea to identify the possibilities of it, and try our best to manage the difficulties. So, both the views hold some water.

Some environmentalists are of the opinion that all instances of energy mismanagement need to be taken as crimes against humanity and environment of today and all the days to come.
Discuss it.
Wise management of available energy is of paramount importance in these days of falling energy security levels the world over. Unfortunately, instances of gross energy mismanagement are very common, and the need for curbing such practices is extremely warranted.
In this regard, we find innumerable ways being adopted by nations the world over to see that the remaining energy sources are kept as long as possible. However, there is much to be done against those who mismanage energy. This is actually a fix. Some people mismanage energy saying that they are paying for what they are using. This is a false notion, and they cannot be let go like that.
Let me prove it. Energy saved is energy generated. In this respect, it is right to say that energy mismanaged is energy destroyed. Destroying energy is nothing but a crime against the welfare of needy people and the planet they are living in.
The same way, the available energy is for the welfare of all no matter which social category they belong to. So, when some irresponsible people go on mismanaging energy, there arises a problem that they are depriving majority of population of their due right for energy security. This is a violation of social justice and it is nothing short of a crime against humanity and environment today and tomorrow.
In short, the discussion makes me stay with those environmentalists who want energy mismanagement to be taken as a crime against humanity. If it is not made so, the coming generation will be deprived of their right to lead a secure life here. Enough energy and safe environment are for all the ages to come.

How advantageous or disadvantageous is it in your opinion?
In these times of career opportunities, it is rather easy to say that early career is better. However, this write up makes an attempt to find out what all advantages and disadvantages early career selection offers people today.
Firstly, today, being in the helm of a profession in one’s prime years is taken as a springboard to the upper rungs of one’s career. For example, he or she who starts up a career early will find faster growth prospects in their twenties itself. Secondly, early financial independence will enable them to support themselves, their family and society at large much early, too. Thirdly, they tend to be go-getters and these people will enjoy great material and social security. This world of survival of the fittest demands such qualities.
All said, let me spare a little space to find out how this idea is going to affect our professionals. Firstly, academic years are the most beautiful times of one’s life. So when one leaves this space and lands in a world of pressure and responsibilities, there is a little concern. Secondly, there are possibilities for wrong career selection. Realizing the same later and starting up a new career and the like lead to many upheavals in one’s life. And, finally, if everyone starts working with their basic qualifications and ignores higher studies, who is going to take care of research, development and teaching?
Looking at the findings on early career selection, I find it right to say that it is equally positive and negative. Since career and higher studies are matters of one’s attitude, opinions differ from person to person.

Unemployment rates find newer heights the world over. Though reasons differ from nation to nation, when it comes third world nations, it is said that non-employability of the workforce is much more responsible than anything else.
How genuine or unfounded is this view in your opinion?
Unemployment is caused by innumerable factors. These may differ according to the statuses of nations. This essay is an attempt to find out how genuine the factor is that non-employability causes more unemployment than any other factor does.
Unemployment is prevalent in all economies the world over. There are several factors that cause it. These causes may range from poor education to rising population, poor development to absence of initiative, to mention a few. However, when it comes to the view that non-employability is a bigger force in this respect, what I feel is that it is just one of the factors that lead to unemployment. It is in no way the most powerful factor.
Let me prove it by citing an example. If we take the case of India, there are evidences to show that it is the huge population, absence of industry-friendly education, poor development initiates, to mention a few, that cause more unemployment than any other factor does.
However, it is important to find out how non-employability affects the employment. Recently, there were reports that many industries found it difficult to find enough number of employable candidates. This was due to industry-unfriendly education and absence of certain skills required of candidates. But, this concern is raised by a negligibly small number of white collar industries like software, management, marketing, engineering and so on.
In short, it is right to say that employment needs of all the workforce cannot be met by a few industries. Rather, it can be satisfied by developments in all walks of life. Therefore, I can say that the non-employability plank is absolutely unfounded.

Unemployment rates are always on the upswing the world over. However, it is a fact that there is unprecedented growth in the number of fresh employment opportunities being generated.
What reasons do you attribute to this disparity?
What effects does it have on people in general?
The world is developing faster in all walks of life. As a result, there is great rise in the number of employments. However, unemployment rates are also on the rise. This essay is an attempt to find out why there is a disparity between these two rates, and how this scenario affects people.
To begin with, several reasons could be attributed to rising unemployment rates. It may range from huge population, poor education and infrastructure development etc. I think, in our part of the world, population is so huge and it is the major reason for this disparity. For example, the numbers of people who get out of different centres of learning are much higher than the number of opportunities being created.
Besides this, other factors like digital divide, gender disparity in employment, huge difference in rural-urban development, lack of industry-friendly education, to mention a few, could be associated with this mounting disparity in both the rates.
Obviously, this dichotomy is bound to affect the general public in several different ways. The primary impact in my opinion is human resource loss. Human resource is a perishable one, and if employable people remain jobless for long, their service will go waste. Secondly, such a loss will lead to poor socio-economic conditions, slow pace development, social disharmony, rich poor divide and, finally, there will be social evils like, crimes, alcoholism, poverty etc.
In short, disparity in unemployment and employment rates is much bigger a problem than what it actually looks like. These rates need to be balanced the general well being of all, and I think it is high time different institutions did something about it.

Many reasons are attributed to unemployment in general. However, it is argued that digital divide and gender discrimination are the two formidable stumbling blocks that stand on the way of what social scientist call ‘employable-employment’ balance.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
It is true that there is imbalance in the number of employable people and the available opportunities. But this dichotomy, in my opinion, could not be attributed greatly to digital or gender divide. Since they are a force to reckon with, it looks hard for me to fully disagree with the view anyway.
Let us look at the common factors that go into what our social scientists call employable-employment imbalance. Primarily it is the size of the population. For example when the number of people who get employable and the number of employment created differ, obviously, there will be unemployment. Secondly, poor quality education, weaker national status, lack of industrialization, haphazard distribution of development between rural and urban areas and the like are the other factors that lead to this imbalance. I think all these reasons are as formidable as gender and digital divide.
For example, digital divide is depriving great number of people of their opportunities. But if we look at the statistics, we can see that digitally qualified people and the number employment created in the digital world do not go in line. That is, there is disparity too. So is the case with gender divide. For example, there is gender preference when private sector, the biggest employment provider, recruits people. Here too, those who suffer from this problem are negligibly small. And studies show that in many organization women outnumber men.
In short, gender and digital divide are two blocks, like any other impediments, that stand on the way of employment employable balance. Therefore, it is difficult agree with the view that they are in any way formidable or whatever.

Ensuring enough employment for all the educated and skilled workforce is taken by some as a responsibility of the State.
How far are you going to endorse this view?
Not many would disagree with the fact that State has a decisive role in ensuring employment for all. But I for one am not convinced of the view that it is solely the responsibility of the State. There are many other agencies that involve in this Herculean task. Let me first see how responsible State is in this connection.
State as a guardian is bound to ensure that the educated and employable workforce get some paid employment. However, when it comes to state as an entity and population as a beneficiary, this task is too arduous. For example, for the State, ensuring employment is one of its responsibilities, not its only responsibility. In this connection, state may be able to make sure that employment opportunities are coming up periodically.
How ever decisive the role of the state may be, there are other agencies that make employment for all possible. Primarily, individuals themselves must strive hard to find their own ways of life when the state finds it unable to perform its role. For example, an employable worker may be able to run a business of his own by taking assistance from the state. But every one cannot expect the state to be providing a monthly paid job. Rather job seekers need to find out their own way outs by taping those possibilities generated by other sources in country and outside.
These inferences make it clear that providing employment for all is not only the responsibility of the state, but it is a collective endeavour carried out by the educated workforce, entrepreneurs, industrialists and the like.

Recognition of outstanding persons by honouring them with doctorate degrees has been practiced by universities the world over. However, this practice is being opposed and supported by many people.
How far can you support this concept?
What are your opposing arguments?
There are different opinions on how appropriate it is to recognize people of great caliber by conferring them doctorate degrees. I for one have my own arguements to support this system, and I can identify a few opposing views too.
My primary argument in favour of this universal practice of recognition is that the services and contributions of some eminent men and women cannot be calculated either in terms of money or in terms of time. Such people need to honoured with the highest of qualifications a centre of excellence can afford. Secondly, there are several main stream doctorate degree holders who services go even unnoticed. And finally, when such people are honoured so, they become part of history and culture, and their life keeps the present and coming generation motivated.
For example, our cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the India King of Chess and space scientist A.P.J Abdul Kalam, to mention a few, are much bigger and larger than life figures whose contributions to humanity are far beyond anyone’s comprehension.
However, there are some counter points. Firstly, some universities may take it as a means for gaining public relations mileage by getting media coverage. Secondly, some individuals may use their power, influence and money to manage an honorary doctorate so as to satisfy their petty interests. Thirdly, there are chances for making real degrees lose their merit and value.
Coming back to the point, I find it right to conclude that conferring honorary doctorate should be kept in high esteem. And there should a strict system in place to observe that such titles to go to deserving hands. Let there be different opinions on this.

Investing in the education of children either by parents or by governments is the wisest of all investments.
How do you look at this argument?
Not many would deny the fact that investing in children’s education is the wisest way of spending money. This may be either by parents or by governments or by both. I can prove this argument right by citing a few examples taken from real life. 45
To begin with, the primary arguement in favour of this view is that it is education that eradicates all social evils. These evils may range from poverty to domestic violence, from child labour to gender based discrimination. For example, an educated community will never endorse child labour because there won’t be any child to be prey to such social evils. 60
Secondly, education leads to empowerment of men and women. Needless to say, when more and more girls get educated, they become great educators of their respective families and they themselves will be able to propel great changes in the society they live in. For example, an educated mother is a home maker, a bread winner, an educator and facilitator of good human values. 60
Thirdly, though there are several other attractive areas of investments around us, when it comes to education, there is no risk factor. Right education is bound to bring in assured returns. These returns are primarily shared by the educated, secondly their family, thirdly their immediate society and finally State at large, one of the agencies that facilitates their education. 60
In short, all the modern investment possibilities notwithstanding, investing in the education of children sounds much better. So it goes without saying that an educated populace is the real asset of any nation, no matter what sort of education people get from where and how. 45

Model answer: task 8 question one
The graph shows the number of mobile phones and landlines per 100 users, for selected countries. Overall, most of the countries included in the graph have more mobile phones subscribers than landlines.
Most European countries have high mobile phone use. The biggest users of mobile phones are the Italians, with 88 cell phones per 100 people. For example, Italy has twice as many mobile phones as landlines, with 88 mobiles per hundred people compared to 45 for landlines. Mobile phone use is low in Canada, with fewer than 40 phones per 100 people. Denmark is also unusual because it has slightly more landlines than mobile phones. However, in some countries, the number of landlines is higher than the number of mobile phones. One example is the USA, where the number of mobiles, at 50 per 100 people, is much lower than the number of landlines, at almost 70 per hundred. A similar pattern can be seen in Canada. The highest number of landlines in the graph is in Denmark, with about 90 per 100 people. In contrast, the lowest figures for fixed lines are in Italy and the UK. In conclusion, it seems that mobile phone use is higher in Europe than in North America.
E. tutoring and e. learning is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. This virtual learning platform offers great advantages for tutors and learners alike.
· Do you think its advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
E. tutoring and E. learning are very common today. This is mainly to the mounting popularity of the Net as an interactive medium. Obviously, both tutors and learners reap benefits, and in my opinion, it offers enough advantages to outweigh the disadvantages.
Online tutoring and learning offers several advantages for both the parties involved. Primary advantage is that it works 24/7 and round the year. Tutors and students can benefit each other by way of interaction, education and value addition. Secondly, it is a virtual learning experience as tutors could be from different nations, and so could students be. It is a kind of exchange. Thirdly, this is a great employment provider. Educated, employed and even retirees could make use of their free time and earn a lot of money. It is a win-win for all in more ways than one.
There are certain disadvantages for E. education though. Firstly, it is the limited possibilities for tutor-leaner face-to-face. This may dampen the spirit of learning. Secondly, accountability factor may be absent because the authenticity or veracity of information imparted may not be reliable. This may harm students and their performance. Thirdly, we cannot rule out the inconveniences it is likely to cause with regard to geographical positioning of both the students and tutors. There could be a few more pitfalls anyway.
Looking at the brighter aspects of the concept, it may be concluded that darker sides are not strong enough to counter the other. It is all a matter of how we make use of it. What is there that does not have an unpleasant side? E. education is no exception.

Model answer: task 2 Question 2
The three graphs of wheat exports each show a quite different pattern between 1985 and 1990. Exports from Australia declined over the five-year period, while the Canadian market fluctuated considerably, and the European Community showed an increase. In 1985, Australia exported about 15 millions of tonnes of wheat and the following year the number increased by one million tonnes to 16 million. After that, however, there was a gradual decline until 1989 and 1990 when it stabilised at about 11 million tonnes. Over the same period, the amount of Canadian exports varied greatly. It started at 19 million tonnes in 1985, reached a peak in 1988 of 24 million, dropped dramatically in 1989 to 14 million tonnes and then climbed back to 19 million in 1990. Seventeen million tonnes were exported from the European Community in 1985, but this decreased to 14 million tonnes in 1986 and then rose to 15 million in 1987 and 1988 before increasing once more to 20 million in 1990.

All manufacturers and marketing organizations are found to be keeping the needs of people mounting. This is both an opportunity and a problem from a consumer’s perspective.
Discuss the pros and cons of ever mounting needs of consumers.
Keeping human needs mounting is a ploy used by manufacturers and their marketing organizations to boost sales. Though this trade practice offers some conveniences to consumers, it creates several problems as well.
Primary advantage a consumer enjoys out of such a market practice is that it brings in manufacturers and market players in the market. As a result, there is competition among manufacturers of same products and services. The benefit a consumer enjoys are many. Firstly, s/he gets great variety of products and services. Secondly, these products and services come with uniform price tags, and the same, most of the time, are affordable to all. Or, there will be greater range of products and services so that consumers can pick and choose according to their needs.
However, there are a few problems created by such a marketing ploy of keeping the needs mounting. Firstly, this tendency pressurizes consumers to be spending on and on. This will keep many consumers poorer. Secondly, it makes consumers believe that their life is incomplete without this or that thing. Actually, it is not so. This is an artificially created mindset. Third problem is it encourages consumption and a ‘use and throw’ culture. This is harmful primarily to the society and secondly to the environment. And finally, mounting needs keeps man a consumer throughout his life. He never thinks of producing anything.
Looking at the opportunities and problems, it may be concluded that manufacturer-driven market results in more problems than opportunities. However, intelligent and informed consumers can identify this ploy and act wisely. Anyways, this trend is bound to be here for ever.
