Since employees of an organization / are of heterogeneous (different) nature / in terms of their backgrounds, attitudes and behaviours, / it is of no use to apply / a defined set of rules and regulations / which, in some people’s opinion, / all the employees may not be able to abide by.
How far do you agree or disagree with this argument?
Today, making all the employees follow a set of rules and regulations is challenging task indeed. However, as workers are different in nature, I think it is virtually impossible for a company to formulate different set of rules for different types of workers.
My one and only argument against the view expressed is that no company can have a smooth run with a workforce which is not governed by a set of rules. This is one of the basic requirements that make an organization really organized. For example, conditions like reporting in time, meeting deadlines, respecting the hierarchy, reporting absence in advance, safeguarding the interests of the organization and the like are for all the staff. On the other hand, if some of the employees fail to abide by all or any one of these common rules and regulations, it will be impossible to keep the show going smooth.
All the need for a set of rules notwithstanding, there is a little room for the thought that people are different in several different ways. For example, educational qualification, the type of family they belong to, the pressures of life people have, personality traits, attitude behaviour and so goes the list endlessly. As a matter of fact, this difference raises a few simple questions. Is working environment the right place for one to be different? No. Is it not a place where people of different nature get together for a common cause? Yes, it is, in many ways, I would say.
The above inferences make me stand against the view that there is no need for a uniform rules and regulations for all. Employees are different, and any one can very well differ, too, but it should not be at the cost of the organization itself.
