Since employees of an organization / are of heterogeneous (different) nature / in terms of their backgrounds, attitudes and behaviours, / it is of no use to apply / a defined set of rules and regulations / which, in some people’s opinion, / all the employees may not be able to abide by.
Argue for and against this view.
A general code of conduct is followed in almost all organizations. But, looking at the workforce mix, some people support this uniform set of rules and regulations, and there are opposing views as well. This essay tries to see both.
As a matter of fact, no organization can expect its workers to be obeying alike, behaving alike and having similar attitudes. People are different in more ways than one. In such a diverse employment platform, applying a uniform code of conduct may not be comfortable for all. For example; it is expected of all employees to be sticking to certain common rules and regulations. These conditions may be acceptable for all. But this is not possible all the time, especially when individuals of different nature happen to have trying times in their personal or family life when they may have to forego company rules.
That everyone is different, however, does not make a uniform set of rules and regulations any irrelevant. This is extremely important in the sense that organization is group of people headed by an investor whose aim is to make it run smoothly. This trouble-free running does demand a set of rules and regulations. For example, conditions like reporting in time, being responsible, respecting the hierarchy, reporting absence in advance and the like are very much important. Here there is no room for the idea, “I am different, and I cannot follow all the rules like others do”. There needs a common set of terms and conditions for the common good of all.
In short, both the arguments have their own takers. But, the fact is that an organization is a place where people of diverse nature get together for a common cause. In such a place personal differences, I feel, should take a back seat.
