Movement of people as part of their employment needs is an environmental concern because it burns a lot of oil and causes pollutions of many types. So posting people at handy locations is an environment-friendly move. There are advantages and disadvantages.

If we look at the major advantages, the first one is that it saves a lot of time, money and resources by way of decreased need for traveling, the expenses thereof and the savings in terms of fuels. This will make the environment breathe easy. Secondly, when people travel shorter distances daily, the whole commuting reduces, thereby reducing pollutions of all types. And finally, the need for having personal cars and similar vehicles will get reduced. As people do need to travel long, the demand for personal vehicles will drastically come down. This is yet another breather for the environment.

However, looking at the other side of the issue, there are certain disadvantages. The primary one is that it is not always possible for organizations either to accommodate all the employable people of a place locally or to find the right mix of people from a particular place to run their shows. Besides, when employers need to expand their operations elsewhere, it is mandatory for them to mobilize people of different skill-sets from one location to the other. Obviously, they have to press for transfers and relocations. This is a practical difficulty of course.

To conclude it, environmentally speaking, the concept of giving convenient workstations to employees is a good idea. But not many employers would go for it as the advantages it offers to them are of minimal value.
