Today parents prefer boarding schools to regular schools to their children. What advantages does a student enjoy studying at a boarding school?
Today parents have many options for the schooling of their children; like public schools, government schools and boarding schools. And a student studying at a boarding school enjoys many advantages.
Primary advantage is that boarding school offers an exclusive learning atmosphere supported by efficient faculty, study aids and infrastructure. For example, in boarding students are observed individually, and their progress is monitored by efficient faculty and support staff. Secondly, boarding school gives a community experience which gives the inmates many opportunities to pick up the basics of social and personal life. This may include, decision making, problem solving, time management, sharing and helping and finally, they develop very good manners and etiquette. Thirdly, it helps children identify their hidden strengths and talents which in turn will help them better their future prospects.
And finally, boarding school education makes a student develop holistically, and he/she will be able to face the challenges of life much more confidently than other students who come from other streams. 160 words
Convicts leaving prison after completing their term face a lot of problems when it comes to leading a normal life. What are the major problems they face?
Crime and punishment are very much part of all societies. But when it comes to prisoners leaving jails after their jail terms, the attitude of the society towards them is almost same. So they face a lots of problems.
Firstly, ex-convicts are looked at with suspicion and distrust. It is a fact that they had done some crimes, and they got punished for the same as well. Still the society fails to accept this fact. Secondly, prisoners out of prison face a lot of emotional and psychological stress like depression, isolation and depravation. They are not welcome everywhere. This is much more haunting than those moments they had had among the four walls of their cells in jails.
Thirdly, these unfortunate human beings will not be able to lead a healthy personal or professional life because ex-convicts are not given jobs, and most of the time they are excluded from community and social circles. These are the most common problems they face. 160 words.
People today generate huge quantities of waste on a daily basis. What are the causes and effects of this?

It is a fact that waste is a by-product of human life. But today, the amount of waste generated on a daily basis is unmanageable, and this has many causes and effects.
The main cause is the rising popularity of consumerism. It leads to the promotion huge quantitative of consumer goods being bought and used by the public. And all these products come with both degradable and non-degradable wastes. Secondly, there is no proper waster management system in place. This leads to the accumulation of waste. Another factor that contributes to this is the use and throw culture promoted by consumer giants. Thirdly, people have a tendency to use a thing and throw it and but a new one. This is really dangerous.
The major consequences of this are pollution and unhygienic living conditions. Waste accumulation leads to the breeding of flies and mosquitoes. They in turn spread epidemics and pandemics. The instructions, tools, keys, tips and tricks or whatever explained here are purely based on a number of tests I have done myself. Many of them are general instructions that could be right, sometimes wrong. Still, the possibility of getting a right answer is more if you follow these seriously. One more thing, reading involves a lot of reading. You have to have great reading skills like fast reading, reading for specific information, reading between lines, reading for a general idea, skimming the passage and the like. Please keep your knowledge on vocabulary, say synonyms, antonyms, equivalent phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions and at times some linguistic peculiarities of some words etc. may be of great use while doing reading.
Be a good reader to do better in reading. There is no short cut to the same. And don’t think that the following tips are shortcuts to a better score. All good scores are the result of the amount of related work done towards the given module. Listening, writing and speaking to mention the other modules in the IELTS. Good luck to you all.
General instructions
1. Never ever leave an entry vacant. There is no negative marking. Guess and write.
2. Write your answers neatly. Don’t leave out letters, apostrophes, prepositions and similar niceties of the language. It is a language testing exam.
3. Manage your time tactfully. Primarily, you have to have an attitude towards reading whatever literature you happen to put your hands on.
Secondly, read analytically, look how different people put in ideas differently. And finally, inculcate a sense of language as you go through different passages every time. Reading skill is a matter of patience, practice and attitude.
Reading: paragraph heading:
· 80 % paragraph headings could be located either from the first one/two sentences or the last one/two sentences of every paragraph.
· In these paragraphs, the first and last phrases of the sentences are more important than the rest of the sentences.
· This is because most of the time, the last/first phrases of these sentences happen to answer the questions that follow paragraph heading.
· Then look for the key worlds given in the headings and check if these key words are there in the first and last sentences.
· Some paragraphs go on describing an idea without giving any emphasis on any part of the paragraphs, say at the beginning or middle or end. These paragraphs are really confusing, and do not waste your time in such paragraphs. You have the freedom to write wrong answers, as you do not want 9 out of 9.

5. Please identify the use of negatives and double negatives, either in the question or in their answers. This is a tricky way of creating questions.
6. And the next option is a critical one, but it is worth trying: If you find that all four answers are equally confusing or you are not able to tell apart which one is more right or wrong, pick out the longest answer and write the corresponding letter, a, b, c or d.
7. The above trick is applicable mostly when the shortest answer is not coming close to the right answer.
8. Last question will be from the last paragraph and most of the time at the last sentence. And to be precise, the last phrase will give you tips to an answer for sure.
9. If the last paragraph is so small, say a single long sentence, the answer will be at the end of the sentence.
10. The last word or the phrase will be an answer or a tip to an answer.
11. If a paragraph begins a small sentence less that half-line long. It is a key.
Gap fills:
· Read out the left and right of the gap to find out the type of word. A singular, plural, past of present or future form, noun or adjective,
· Check if the gap completes the sentences.
· Or if the gap begins a sentence. Words like, however, importantly …..
· Cancel out the used words if one word cannot be used two or more times.
· If the instructions tell you that you can use a word as many times as you want, please note that there will be a word which could be used 2 times.
· Remember, if a particular word that begins a sentence in the body text comes at the end of a given question, please note the answer can be reciprocated like, active and passive forms will be used, be careful here. This reverse question is easy to answer if you know a little about active and passive voices.
· There are many examples to show you one fact that a sentence or a phrase that has helped you find one answer or paragraph heading, will be key to one or more following questions like yes or no, true or false or not given. It is a better idea to note the key sentences.
Matching phrases with corresponding phrases:
Read the question phrase/s carefully, grammatically and quizzically.
1. Check if the phrase is looking for a singular match or a plural match, past or present match.
2. Check if the question phrase has a noun in it, so that the equivalent could be traced in the matching phrase.
3. Cancel out the used phrase.
4. Check if the question phrase is an if clause, if yes, you may look for its main clause.
5. The other way round is also possible, here you may look for the conditional clause.
6. Check if the question phrase is a negative or positive one. This will help you.
Yes, no, not given and information not given
· Beware of double negatives and negatives in the body text and their corresponding questions. Not in any way possible…Not that he dislikes it…. It is not in the inability but in the lack of attitude etc. It is not always impossible to reach at a conclusion…
· There will be one direct yes question and one direct no question. The not given question often has a strange/alien phrase with a little resemblance to one of the main ideas discussed. Here you have to be analytical. So such questions give you outright hints to say, not given is the answer.
· Imagine you have 5 such questions, and you got all four different answers but the unrepresented one is either yes, or no, or not given. Whatever it is write it.
· Ideas for No questions are normally taken from a long sentence, but a following small sentence or a question will give clues to it.
Paraphrasing is very important. Summarizing the thought in a few sentences or summarizing a sentence into a phrase or converting a phrase into a word etc. The last part is important, as there are some answers with word limits. When you get the idea from a long phrase or a small sentence, you have to meaningfully summarize it into the given word limitDistribution of questions among the sections and time management
Look at the number of questions in each section. If the first section has only ten, you can do it in 10 to 13 minutes. If the number of question is 15 or more, go for serious reading, you may have to use all 20 minutes for the same.
Follow the thought of the topic. And track the paragraphs in accordance with the sequence of questions. Most of the time questions are sequentially prepared.
Remember: every reading is an opportunity to learn more about reading. So never ever forget to develop a reading habit. No matter what you read, it is whether you read something or not, that matters.

· Active and passive forms

Data on the popularity of Valentine ’s Day gifts among men and women in the US.
The given pie charts show information on different types of gifts that men and women in the US buy for each other on Valentine’s Day. 25 words
It is obvious that the most popular gift is card. Twenty-seven percent of women buy it for their loved ones. On the other hand, only 18% of men go for the same. The most common gift that men buy comes under the category called ‘other’, 25%, while it is only the third most one for women, 17%. Candy, the second most preferred gift among women, 21%, comes fourth when it comes to men, 14%. Sixteen percent of men and 11% of women buy flowers for each other. 80 words.
Jewelry as a gift is almost equally popular among both the genders. Nine percent of women and 10% of men buy it for each other. Over emphasis on industrialization is one of the major reasons for the mounting energy crisis. So it is a good idea to observe industrial holidays for some time as to achieve energy supply- demand equilibrium.

Making of a medical professional involves huge investments. But many professionals leave the country right after their studies. This needs to be discouraged. So it is good to make it mandatory that they serve the poor for some years before they go abroad. 42 words
3. All tourism destinations need to be held and run by the state. What is your opinion on this?
It is a fact that tourism is a huge industry and a revenue earner too. They are diverse and mostly run by private individuals. And running all these different tourism destinations cannot be done by the state because it involves huge investments and infrastructure. 43 words

Ever since the declaration at the Earth Summit in Brazil in 1992 that June 8 every year would be observed as Oceans Day, much water has flown down the bridges to the seas and oceans around the world. Anyway, the declaration had many lofty objectives. The role of Oceans and seas in maintaining the balance of life on earth and therefore the need to keep three fourth of the globe without pollution or with bearable amount of pollution were the ultimate objectives.
Our Ocean and Seas are maintaining the mercury levels of the world at sustainable levels, keeping the clock of rains around the world, sustaining the lives of millions of people who eke out their lives on fish stock and maritime activities, watering the lives and their hundreds of thousands of live stock and farm sectors of millions of people in water scarce countries like the ones in the Middle East and elsewhere.
They are again contributing a huge share for the food security of the world and providing a level playing field for all geographically convenient nations around the world to have their own shares of maritime trade and the revenue thereof and the never exhaustible corals and similar invaluable natural reserves and finally they humbly contribute a sizeable share of revenue through tourism to many economies.
As this is the case with our Seas, do they not deserve much better treatment than what they get over the years of these so-called-human evolution and the technological and intellectual revolutions thereof. ‘They do’ is the answer.
Our Oceans are being constantly threatened by human activity the same way our environment in the land is. Pollutions of all types contribute to this threat. Drainages, industrial effluents and exhausts, international dumping of electronic, toxic radio active substances, frequent oil slicks from container ships and their frequent wrecks, the ever increasing maritime transportation and the exhaust, oil and fuel leakages linked to it, mounting motorized fishing, run off from the shores carrying residues of pesticides and chemicals used in the agriculture and other farming sectors, and finally the ever billowing carbon bubbles getting generated from every other act of human development are some of the ways though which our oceans are getting polluted.
When dwindling fish stock stares at the lives of millions, when water needs of a sizeable number of lives on earth go dry, when clocks of rains around the world happen to run back ward or come to halt leading to poor production and food insecurity, when temperature levels cross human and habit endurance, when glaciers come to add to the woes of the seas, threatening the low lying areas and the habitat there, when our coral reefs go extinct slowly and steadily, and eventually when life on earth itself becomes near impossible, we the humans feign ignorance to all these and go on living our lives to our gluttonous full.
Hypocritically, we find it comfortable not to know that it is going to be the beginning of an end. So, before it is too late, we all need to do our shares to save the Oceans. The same way we keep our people aware of environmental pollutions, we have to have a global campaign against aggressions of all types on the seas. June 8 is the most appropriate day to have a start off.
Though the world order is global, when it comes to an attitudinal change of global dimension, it is the individual initiatives that make the bigger difference than what the institutions and international forums and parlays do. International summits, like the one held in Geneva in 1992 or the one that went on in the Bali Island last year, would come, make declarations and go winding them up. Unless we include ourselves in these declarations, unless all humans start talking and thinking in terms of the rest of the humanity in general, life on earth is going to be much more difficult in the coming days.

Drainages, industrial effluents and exhausts, international dumping of electronic, toxic radio active substances, frequent oil slicks from container ships and their frequent wrecks, the ever increasing maritime transportation and the exhaust, oil and fuel leakages linked to it, mounting motorized fishing, run off from the shores carrying residues of pesticides and chemicals used in the agriculture and other farming sectors, and finally the ever billowing carbon bubbles getting generated from every other act of human development are some of the ways though which our oceans are getting polluted.
When dwindling fish stock stares at the lives of millions, when water needs of a sizeable number of lives on earth go dry, when clocks of rains around the world happen to run back ward or come to halt leading to poor production and food insecurity, when temperature levels cross human and habit endurance, when glaciers come to add to the woes of the seas, threatening the low lying areas and the habitat there, when our coral reefs go extinct slowly and steadily, and eventually when life on earth itself becomes near impossible, we the humans feign ignorance to all these and go on living our lives to our gluttonous full.
Hypocritically, we find it comfortable not to know that it is going to be the beginning of an end. So, before it is too late, we all need to do our shares to save the Oceans. The same way we keep our people aware of environmental pollutions, we have to have a global campaign against aggressions of all types on the seas. June 8 is the most appropriate day to have a start off.
Though the world order is global, when it comes to an attitudinal change of global dimension, it is the individual initiatives that make the bigger difference than what the institutions and international forums and parlays do. International summits, like the one held in Geneva in 1992 or the one that went on in the Bali Island last year, would come, make declarations and go winding them up. Unless we include ourselves in these declarations, unless all humans start talking and thinking in terms of the rest of the humanity in general, life on earth is going to be much more difficult in the coming days.

This has many ramifications on human life. 50 words
There a re innumerable reasons for this threat. The first and foremost is pollution resulting from industries, farming, and water transpirations. For example, industries dump their effluents into the see directly and chemical and pesticide wash off from farm sector through canals and rivers, into the oceans. Also domestic wastes and discharge and exhaust from marine transpiration play a major role in polluting the oceans. Besides, these, experiments like nuclear tests and military exercises affect the aquatic life significantly. Certainly majority of human activities threaten the oceans in someway. 85 words
Obviously, all these factors affect the ecological balance, because the effects of water pollution are long lasting. Many nations depend on the oceans for drinking water, food and employment. If pollution rate exceeds a particular limit, it will cause the disappearance of fishes which in turn affects food industry, and may result in loss of employment in associated sectors especially in fisheries. All these factors affect the economy of many countries. 70 words
To conclude, the above factors make it clear that human activities are responsible for the threats faced by oceans world over. Humans threaten the oceans in many ways. Firstly, pollutions of all types; such as industrial effluents, domestic waste, chemical and pesticide wash off from farms, exhaust and discharge from marine transports, dumping of destructive wastes and ship wrecks and resultant oil spill and slick have considerably damaged the natural habitat and diversity of oceans.
