The graph breaks up data on different modes of transport people of a European city used to travel to and from work in three periods, 1960, 1980 and 2000.
To begin with, in 1960, 20% people traveled by bus. This figure went above 25% in 1980. But, when it was 2000, the percentage came close to 15%. When it comes to car users, in 1960, hardly seven percent people used it. In 1980, it showed more than three times increase, 25%, and in 2000 it went past 35%, recording a seven fold rise.
Coming to bike, its popularity declined over the years. When more than 25% people biked to work in 1960, the corresponding figure for 1980 was 20%. The biggest fall was recorded in the year 2000; hardly seven percent. The percentage of those who walked stood at 35% in 1960. In the following two periods, it stood slightly above 15% and below 10% respectively, a decline more than three times.
In short, bus had been very popular in all three periods whereas car’s polarity kept on increasing. But walking and biking turned unpopular over time.

Human life span is on the rise thanks to better living conditions and medical innovations. This development is taken differently by different people. However, in my view longer-living people are a great source of wealth of varying dimensions.
My first argument supporting this view is that older population has great wealth of knowledge garnered from scores of years’ experience, and this knowledge and expertise cannot be calculated in terms of money. The same way, experts who are healthy enough to continue in some services can be made use of for the betterment of any community. Openings like advisors, resource persons, consultants and the like are worth filled in by senior citizens. It is unfortunate to look at such professionals as a liability.
Let me substantiate my view with a few examples. An aged farmer may not be able to contribute much to farming sector by way of hard work. But he or she is a store-house of farming lessons gathered out of hand on experience, and such knowledge will be great service to modern farming sector. The same way let’s take the case of an academic who is healthy and has some 25 or 30 years’ teaching experience. Is it fair to leave him or her saying that ‘you are so old that you cannot help a society?’ Such a person would do much more to education than any youngster could.

All these business factors are governed by demands for what ever is produced.
Here comes the role of consumers. For example; if consumers unanimously decide on one thing that they won’t buy harmful products like tobacco, toxic beverages, suffocating plastics and similar health and ecological hazards, there is going to be slow death of all companies that produce such products. So it is demand that decides. The ball is in the court of consumers.
Apart from this, there are other alternatives, too. I think it is a good idea to impose ceilings on the quantity of products manufactured, so that free availability can be curtailed. Besides this, governments can decline all fresh applications for permission to open fresh industries. Including a lesson in the school curriculum highlighting the dangers of harmful products will make the upcoming generation stay away from hazardous products.

The U.S. publishes over 24 billion newspapers every year, and that’s not the only place that newsprint turns up. People use it to wrap packaging, to print junk mail fliers, and to create coupons. All told, that is tons and tons of paper waste every single year.
Recycling paper is a great way to put a dent in this waste, but paper recycling is far from an ideal solution. It’s inefficient, and each time you recycle paper, you’re really downcycling it into an inferior product.
We don’t get a paper at our house, but we still end up with our fair share of newsprint somehow. Sometimes, a fragile thrift store or yard sale find comes wrapped in newspaper. Other times, we get junk mail printed on newsprint. No matter how newsprint manages to creep into your life, I’m guessing that you cringe at the thought of wasting it, too.
Rather than toss all of that paper in the recycle bin, you can reuse old newspaper around your home and in the garden!
1. Clean windows or glass. Dip crumpled newspaper into water mixed with a splash of white vinegar, and clean those windows up without any streaks or harmful chemicals!
2. Burn it up. Instead of a starter log in the fireplace or at a bonfire, use tightly rolled pieces of newsprint instead.
3. Make a weed barrier. If you’re building a raised bed, lay out pieces of newspaper before you fill it up with dirt. The paper will help keep weeds from invading.
4. Wrap some gifts. It’s fun to go through your papers to find cute and colorful pages to use as gift wrap. When I was a kid, we loved wrapping presents up in the Sunday funnies.
5. Pack it up. Instead of plastic bubble wrap, wrap valuables in newspaper for shipping, and pad your box with more crumpled paper. You can take it a step further and include some ideas in the package for how your recipient can reuse all of that paper, too!
6. As origami paper. Cut your newspaper into squares and get folding! Newsprint is great at holding folds. Just be gentle, since it’s a bit more prone to tearing than store bought origami paper.
7. In the fridge. Keep the bottom of the veggie drawer from getting nasty by lining it with newspaper. It will absorb liquid and odors.
8. For ripening fruit. If you’ve picked up some under-ripe peaches, avocados, or other fruit, wrap them in newspaper to ripen them more quickly. Paper bags also work for this.
9. Shine on. Give the shine back to your stainless steel sink by gently scrubbing it with wadded up, wet newspaper.
10. Compost it. Newspaper makes great bedding for a worm bin. Tear into strips and let those red wigglers turn it into gardening gold!
11.Papier mache. Get crafty with that old newsprint! You can make all sorts of fun papier mache projects, like a piñata or cool bangle bracelets.
12. Donate them. Your local animal shelter can use newspapers to line their cages. Some even shred them up to use as kitty litter, when the budget is tight. You can also donate them to thrift stores, where they’ll use them to pack up fragile items that sell.
13. Line the puppy crate. Dog owners who are crate training can use old newspapers to line the puppy crate. It makes cleanup much easier when your sweet pup has an accident.
14. Make handmade paper. Grab your blender and turn old newspaper into pretty, recycled paper. Handmade paper is great for making invitations and little cards. You can also mix some seeds into your paper pulp to turn newsprint into recycled seed paper that your recipients can plant!
15. Spin it into yarn. Feeling crafty? If you’ve got a spindle handy, you can whip up recycled newspaper yarn, then knit or crochet your paper into anything you like!
Of course, the best way to reduce the amount of newspaper waste in your life is to avoid picking up a physical newspaper at all. You can read news online or subscribe to a paper on your e-reader instead of buying a paper paper. It’s a little bit harder to stop getting junk mail, but companies like Manilla are working to make that a bit easier.

Better teacher-student understanding, student-friendly curriculum and teaching will be able to remove corporal punishment from schools for ever.

1. Punishing children for correction is a topic of discussion, and the majority does not want it. So there are suggestions as to how we can do it. A student-friendly atmosphere at school will surely make it possible. That is what I believe.
2. Punishment hardly makes any correction in children. That is what I feel. So, I think, if schools could be student-friendly, we can say good bye to corporal punishment. I have no problem fully endorsing this view.
3. What makes teachers punish children? Or, what makes children misbehave or fail to comply. Reasons galore. However, if schools are student-friendly, corporal punishment as a correction tool will die out.
4. Corporal punishment and schooling have remained twined for ages. If we want to separate them and say good bye to one, there needs great efforts. Student-friendly school is a right move towards such a goal.
5. Many studies have shown that a punished child is a disturbed soul. Teaching or a teacher should not be instrumental to it. Therefore, the need for removing corporal punishment is much higher. A student-friendly school is a right move by all means.
6. Though there is saying: “spare the rod and spoil the child”, studies show that sparing the rod may save a child instead. So punishing children at academic ambiance is unfair. I believe that a student-friendly school will help a lot in sparing the rod for ever.
7. Punishing children for correction does not have many takers today. In such a context, how can we remove punishment from schools and make children fair well at the same time? I strongly feel that a student friendly atmosphere will do the job.
8. Managing students is a tough task. Still managing them by punishing is a tougher task. That is what I feel. So a student friendly atmosphere at school is a much better option than anything else.
9. School children, it is said, believe and trust their teachers more than their parents. That belief and trust can be instrumental to removing corporal punishment from schools. I stand for such an idea.
10. There are innumerable reasons for a student to be not complying. Is it possible for a teacher to address all these issues? No. But the best a teacher can do is to keep a classroom extremely student-friendly. Corporate punishment as a correction instrument will go out for ever.
