Though health is taken to be the force behind the wealth of a nation, in today’s knowledge-driven economies, it is education that makes a nation wealthy.
Essay 012
• How do you look at these propositions?
Is it health or education that makes a nation healthy? Opinions differ much more today than it was before because it is the times of knowledge economies. However, the fact remains that it is health that is the ultimate wealth of a nation. That is what I feel.
A healthy population is instrumental to the wealth of a nation in many counts. First of all, when citizens are healthy enough, they are likely to be knowledgeable and productive by way of what we call a healthy life. It is healthy life that makes a person everything else. Let me cite example of a nuclear family which is not healthy but highly educated. And their knowledge is their wealth. But when it comes to converting that knowledge into wealth, what comes first is health. So health is the key to wealth.
When it comes to knowledge-driven economies of these times, there are innumerable openings for people to make great differences in their life, and their nation’s health, by exploiting knowledge they gain out of education of all types. Yes, it is true to some extent, especially when people have opportunities to get informed and thereby empowered in financial terms. This is more so when there is not much physical effort involved in getting informed by education. This proposition is more fitting to today’s special circumstances. But, ultimately, it is health that holds the key.
To conclude it, I would like to say that knowledge is able to make a nation wealthy these days, but that ability hinges more on people’s health than on anything else. In my opinion, health is wealth and knowledge is a means to wealth.
