Competition has always been there in this world since time immemorial and it is the very foundation of human survival too. The world enjoys enormous achievement as a result of ubiquitous competitions and it is a fact that its merits are manifold, though it has some darker sides as well. 50 words
Competition has myriad of advantages. It not only enables the participants to realize their strengths and weaknesses but also it encourages them to work hard, which in turn helps them attain their goals. Moreover, since success and failure are part of competition, one has to accept them both, thus facilitating the people to meet the challenges of life. Undoubtedly, by improving one’s caliber, potential and raising one’s resilience levels, competition plays a key role in developing the personality of individuals. And of course, such people will always be successful in their life. 90 words
However, as in many other cases, competition is not absolutely free of disadvantages. Primarily, there is chance for the participants to resort to unethical practices to win or to defeat their opponents. For instance, bribing judges, doping etc. which definitely spoils the very purpose of competition. Besides these, competition imposes large mount pressure not only on the winners- they have to improve their talents every time- but also on those who fail. Above all, competition encourages an attitude of neglect among the losers as they become insignificant in front of the winners. This leads to their dwindling confidence levels. 95 words
So it is right to conclude that, though competition has darker sides, its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. And I am of the opinion that healthy competition is to be promoted to ensure progress of the world since human survival itself is a competition. 45 words.
