Consumer fests, trade fairs and shopping festivals are regularly being conducted in third world nations, and their frequency is increasing as days pass by, and these events are said to be doing both good and harm to the society.

Commercial events promoting sales of services and products are very common in poor nations and it is a fact that their frequency is increasing. However, these events have both positive and negative benefits to a given society.

If we look at the advantages of these commercial exercises, there are several. Primarily, these events offer great opportunities for the consumers by way of education on products and services. For example, newly arrived and arriving products and services are displayed in such events, and people come to know about them in detail. And it helps them make wise purchase decisions. Secondly, such events are avenues for employment. Many youngsters work at such fairs. Thirdly, it promotes sales and the same, in turn, brings in revenue to the State. There are many other benefits, and these are the ones I find important.

On the other side of the coin, there are a few hard facts which are not that encouraging. Firstly, these events encourage people to buy things they do not actually need. Secondly, these events pressurize the people in such a way that they develop a tendency to pick a use-and-throw culture which is really harmful to the well being of the people and environment. Thirdly, trade fairs and similar promotional activities sell out products and services which are either outdated or at times, they are on the way out. This creates a lot of waste in the surroundings, and waste management is a huge problem these days. And there are many more disadvantages to be cited.

Therefore, the above points make me conclude that, these days, trade events are pressurizing the people and environment alike, and it is obvious that their advantages hardly outweigh the disadvantages. People need to be wise enough when it comes to purchases at such events.
