Information on underground rail systems, their years of opening and passenger capacity

The table gives information on underground railway stations in six cities, and the particulars include their year of opening, route length and annual passenger mobility.

To begin with, London underground route is the oldest and longest. This 394 kilometers long railway was opened in 1863 and it transports 775 million passengers a year which is the third position compared to other ones. When the year, 1900 saw the opening of the second longest (199) Paris underground railway system, 1927 witnessed the opening of Tokyo’s rail which is 155 kilometers long. They individually transport 1191 and 1927 milion passengers annually. The latter is the highest number and former is second to it.

The Washington underground rail system was opened in 1976. It is 126 kilometers long and it transports 144 million passengers. The shortest rail system to be opened in the year 1981 was Kyoto’s; 11 kilometers. It carries the least number of passengers a year, 45 million. Finally, the 28 kms long Los Angeles rail system became operational in 2001. It moves 50 million passengers.

Among the six mentioned railway systems, London underground railway system is the oldest and longest and Los Angeles the latest.
