Is it the rising health consciousness that makes people highly anxious of their health? Or, it is limitless and free access to medical knowledge that makes them so?
Essay 004
Approach these questions objectively.
The mounting health consciousness among people is a positive development if we look at it objectively. On the other hand, virtual access to medical information may make people more anxious than conscious of their health.
It is a fact that health education is on the rise. This is contributed more by media than by other social agencies. Anyhow, people, who are aware of health, are likely to be on guard against diseases, and they are able lead lives according to the dictates of their knowledge. For example, in our place great many people are found to be doing for periodic check ups and following healthy life style practices like following fitness regime, drinking boiled water and so on. Actually, this is a welcome development and it is hard to say it would make people anxious of their health.
Unfortunately, today people are flooded with information on diseases, medicines, diagnostics and medical researches and developments. This is actually dangerous. This knowledge, instead of making them conscious of their health, leaves them at tender hooks. For example, people with too much medical knowledge may find themselves confused and doubtful. As a result, they may even go for solicited medication. For example, some people always feel afraid of their health status. It is due to the excessive access to medical knowledge they enjoy that makes them anxious, not the mounting health consciousness.
In short, unless people are able to identify the fine line that lies between health consciousness and medical knowledge, both the developments will be counter productive. Right health consciousness is good, but too much medical knowledge is dangerous.
