How promising or damaging is this trend in your opinion?

Today’s employment environment is changing much faster, and the emerging jobs demand tailor-made qualifications to meet the changing demands of industries. Naturally, such qualifications land people in jobs faster than conventional qualifications do. So, I think, it is more promising than damaging.

We all know that, today, private players are the biggest employment providers, and they need people who have honed special skill sets. Here short term qualifications come exactly cut for the industry. Actually, this is a win-win situation for all parties. The candidates who pursue these programmes get employed faster, the employer finds right hands, and finally the cry over rising unemployment gets addressed periodically. Is it not promising to see people get employed faster?

However, we cannot ignore the need for conventional courses. There should be enough people to meet the needs of a nation. Short term courses may offer jobs to a set of people but, conventional programmes help a whole nation find human resources to meet its diverse needs. It needs people like administrators, scientists, academia, doctors, trainers, writers, artists, and so goes the list. However, if we look at it from a job aspirant’s angle, tailor made programmes look more promising than damaging. From a nation’s point of view, it may look the other way round.

In short, whether it is damaging or promising, the very purpose of education is to make one lead a meaningful, civilized and productive life. Right employment at right times is what is needed for it. If tailor made courses are able to fulfill that need, it is no doubt promising. It is all about how one looks at it.
