Data on the popularity of Valentine ’s Day gifts among men and women in the US.
The given pie charts show information on different types of gifts that men and women in the US buy for each other on Valentine’s Day. 25 words
It is obvious that the most popular gift is card. Twenty-seven percent of women buy it for their loved ones. On the other hand, only 18% of men go for the same. The most common gift that men buy comes under the category called ‘other’, 25%, while it is only the third most one for women, 17%. Candy, the second most preferred gift among women, 21%, comes fourth when it comes to men, 14%. Sixteen percent of men and 11% of women buy flowers for each other. 80 words.
Jewelry as a gift is almost equally popular among both the genders. Nine percent of women and 10% of men buy it for each other. Rest of the gifts: perfume or cologne, spa or personal care items and lingerie, are the choices of four, six and seven percent of men and 10, one, and four percent of women respectively. 55 words
I may be observed that among all the gifts card is the most preferred one and spa or personal care item is the least like one. 25 words

Over emphasis on industrialization; IELTS ESSAY
Over emphasis on industrialization
Over emphasis on industrialization is one of the major reasons for the mounting energy crisis. So it is a good idea to observe industrial holidays for some time as to achieve energy supply- demand equilibrium.
Do you think it is worth a try?
How can we meet the ever-mounting energy demands?
Globalization has paved the way for rapid industrialization. Many countries give undue importance to industries in order to compete with others, thereby increasing the demand for energy. As energy crisis is severe, it is better to observe industrial holidays for some time or adopt several other alternative measures to offset power demand supply equilibrium. 50 words
Industrial holiday, as the term indicates, is a measure to decrease the consumption of power by giving frequent holidays to select industries. Consequently, the available energy can be preserved and distributed to other power hungry sectors. For example, the power used by manufacturers of luxury goods like car can be channeled to some agricultural sectors, if they are restricted so run the factory for a certain period of time. So it is a good idea to observe industrial holidays and this is possible in rich and poor nations alike. 90 words
When it comes to solving this issue, every individual must realize the value of power they use and so should the industries. Secondly, the laxity in preventing transmission loss and power theft needs to be addressed seriously. Governments have to resolve thee problems on a war foot level. In addition to theses, luxury taxes can also work to reduce energy consumption. Finally, tapping of alternative energy sources like, wind, solar and tidal energy could be tapped, and nuclear option could also be considered. This will help offset the problems of energy crisis to a great extent. 90 words
In short, the demand for energy is huge, and it needs to be balanced with the supply. So it is better to preserve energy by all means because energy conserved is energy generated, and better energy implies better life. 40 words

Over emphasis on industrialization and power crisis
Over emphasis on industrialization is one of the major reasons for the mounting energy crisis. So it is a good idea to observe industrial holidays for some time as to achieve energy supply- demand equilibrium.
Do you think it is worth a try?How can we meet the ever-mounting energy demands?Energy security is the driving force behind the success of all nations. But of late countries around the world are facing problem with it, as the demand supply equilibrium is being upset due to over industrialization. It’s true that industrial holiday is a good idea worth trying though there are many other ways to offset this imbalance. 55 words
Though industrial holidays, suspending work for sometime, are being looked at with suspicion as they are likely to halt progress, it is worth a try because there are certain power crazy industries which may be halted for sometime; for example, manufacturing of luxury goods. Though the rich may not be happy with such a move, we can try it in select areas. There are certain industries which do not need to be working all year long. So power could be supplied to industries on a priority basis, and the power so saved could be channeled to meet the demands of other power needy sectors. 95 words
Besides this, there are many other ways to maintain energy demand supply equilibrium. Firstly, wise management of available energy. It can be done by cutting down on transmission loss and plugging theft. Secondly, consumers need to be educated about the value of power, and ask them to shun luxuries. And finally, there are enormous renewable energy sources around us like wind, solar and tidal energy. They could be tapped to meet the mounting power demands. 75 words
To conclude, it is true that over industrialization is no good, but we cannot observe industrial holidays much frequently. So there needs to be initiative from all quarters to manage power and make other power sources work for the power grid of the world. Energy security leads to better life. 50 words

As this is the case with our Seas, do they not deserve much better treatment than what they get over the years of these so-called-human evolution and the technological and intellectual revolutions thereof. ‘They do’ is the answer.
Ever since the declaration at the Earth Summit in Brazil in 1992 that June 8 every year would be observed as Oceans Day, much water has flown down the bridges to the seas and oceans around the world. Anyway, the declaration had many lofty objectives. The role of Oceans and seas in maintaining the balance of life on earth and therefore the need to keep three fourth of the globe without pollution or with bearable amount of pollution were the ultimate objectives.
Our Ocean and Seas are maintaining the mercury levels of the world at sustainable levels, keeping the clock of rains around the world, sustaining the lives of millions of people who eke out their lives on fish stock and maritime activities, watering the lives and their hundreds of thousands of live stock and farm sectors of millions of people in water scarce countries like the ones in the Middle East and elsewhere.
They are again contributing a huge share for the food security of the world and providing a level playing field for all geographically convenient nations around the world to have their own shares of maritime trade and the revenue thereof and the never exhaustible corals and similar invaluable natural reserves and finally they humbly contribute a sizeable share of revenue through tourism to many economies.
As this is the case with our Seas, do they not deserve much better treatment than what they get over the years of these so-called-human evolution and the technological and intellectual revolutions thereof. ‘They do’ is the answer.
Our Oceans are being constantly threatened by human activity the same way our environment in the land is. Pollutions of all types contribute to this threat. Drainages, industrial effluents and exhausts, international dumping of electronic, toxic radio active substances, frequent oil slicks from container ships and their frequent wrecks, the ever increasing maritime transportation and the exhaust, oil and fuel leakages linked to it, mounting motorized fishing, run off from the shores carrying residues of pesticides and chemicals used in the agriculture and other farming sectors, and finally the ever billowing carbon bubbles getting generated from every other act of human development are some of the ways though which our oceans are getting polluted.
When dwindling fish stock stares at the lives of millions, when water needs of a sizeable number of lives on earth go dry, when clocks of rains around the world happen to run back ward or come to halt leading to poor production and food insecurity, when temperature levels cross human and habit endurance, when glaciers come to add to the woes of the seas, threatening the low lying areas and the habitat there, when our coral reefs go extinct slowly and steadily, and eventually when life on earth itself becomes near impossible, we the humans feign ignorance to all these and go on living our lives to our gluttonous full.
Hypocritically, we find it comfortable not to know that it is going to be the beginning of an end. So, before it is too late, we all need to do our shares to save the Oceans. The same way we keep our people aware of environmental pollutions, we have to have a global campaign against aggressions of all types on the seas. June 8 is the most appropriate day to have a start off.
Though the world order is global, when it comes to an attitudinal change of global dimension, it is the individual initiatives that make the bigger difference than what the institutions and international forums and parlays do. International summits, like the one held in Geneva in 1992 or the one that went on in the Bali Island last year, would come, make declarations and go winding them up. Unless we include ourselves in these declarations, unless all humans start talking and thinking in terms of the rest of the humanity in general, life on earth is going to be much more difficult in the coming days.

Oceans around the world are under threat. Causes and effects IELTS essay
Oceans around the world are under threat. Causes and effects: an IELTS essay by Soumya
Oceans around the world are increasingly being threatened by human intervention, and this has greater impact on societies world over.
In what all ways do oceans get threatened
?What impact does this threat have on human life?
With the emergence of technological advancements, developments have been taking place in the areas of industry and transportation. They not only contribute lots of benefits, but also create so many problems like pollutions of land and ocean. Nowadays, as result, oceans are threatened by different human industrial. This has many ramifications on human life. 50 words
There a re innumerable reasons for this threat. The first and foremost is pollution resulting from industries, farming, and water transpirations. For example, industries dump their effluents into the see directly and chemical and pesticide wash off from farm sector through canals and rivers, into the oceans. Also domestic wastes and discharge and exhaust from marine transpiration play a major role in polluting the oceans. Besides, these, experiments like nuclear tests and military exercises affect the aquatic life significantly. Certainly majority of human activities threaten the oceans in someway. 85 words
Obviously, all these factors affect the ecological balance, because the effects of water pollution are long lasting. Many nations depend on the oceans for drinking water, food and employment. If pollution rate exceeds a particular limit, it will cause the disappearance of fishes which in turn affects food industry, and may result in loss of employment in associated sectors especially in fisheries. All these factors affect the economy of many countries. 70 words
To conclude, the above factors make it clear that human activities are responsible for the threats faced by oceans world over. It is high time we took necessary measures to control it, and it is the responsibility of all nations to protect the oceans for the sustenance of life on the planet. 50 words

Oceans around the world are under threat. Causes and effects IELTS essay
Oceans around the world are increasingly being threatened by human intervention, and this has greater impact on societies world over.
In what all ways do oceans get threatened?
What impact does this threat have on human life?
Oceans are the richest sources of food and water, and they play a key role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of the Earth. Oceans support human existence and it is impossible for man to lead a life excluding oceans. But today, oceans around the world are facing threats due to human aggression and, of course, this has huge impact on humanity. 60 words
Humans threaten the oceans in many ways. Firstly, pollutions of all types; such as industrial effluents, domestic waste, chemical and pesticide wash off from farms, exhaust and discharge from marine transports, dumping of destructive wastes and ship wrecks and resultant oil spill and slick have considerably damaged the natural habitat and diversity of oceans. Secondly, over exploitation of oceans by vested interests has destroyed our oceans a lot. Apart from these, experiments in the seas, especially nuclear and military, also upset the oceans largely. Finally, global warming is a silent killer of oceans. In short, oceans are international dump yards. 95 words
Since human life is dependant on oceans, the destruction of oceans has wider ramifications on human society. The flood and water security, a major share of which is contributed by oceans, is questioned. Since oceans provide employment opportunities to many marine dependant communities, their destruction may affect their livelihood. Moreover, increasing threat to oceans weaken the revenue of marine economies around the world, thus hampering their entire progress. 70 words
To sum up, since oceans are essential for human substance, its richness and marine diversity have to be preserved and protected to ensure the well being of entire humanity. This calls for a coordinated, multi-pronged action particularly from individuals and nations, and international community in general. 45 words

employability is the key to success. IELTS essay
Quality of education is determined more by the employability of the candidates than by anything else like the name and fame of the institution.
How far do you agree or disagree with this?
Quality of education is very crucial in today’s fast changing employment environment. It is controlled more by private sector than by government sector. When it comes to private sector jobs, employability matters much more than the name or popularity of the institution a person gets educated from. 50 words
Education is becoming more expensive these days and students are highly ambitious to find lucrative jobs mostly under private sector. Government is no longer an employment provider for all the people who get qualified every year. When it comes to private sector jobs, it is the skill-sets and individual faculties that decide a candidate’s employability. In short, employers want to get their jobs done. A huge syllabus, efficient faculty and infrastructure may be there in all institutions. But they are contributory factors that decide on the employability or the industry-friendliness of the candidates. 90 words
On the contrary, employability cannot be achieved without the support of efficient faculty, competitive syllabus and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Coupled with these is the need for including provisions for students for gaining hand on experience in their respective professions. A wise implementation of these factors would make a candidate meet the challenges of emerging jobs openings. However, there are a few other factors like attitude, personal interests and talents, to mention a few, that make one employable. 75 words
The ultimate purpose of education is to make one lead successful and meaningful life, and one needs to be decently employed to be so. However, meeting the changing needs of modern employers is tough for the poorly qualified. So it is employability that matters most when it comes to quality of education. 50 words

Tobacco and alcoholic products are legal, but consumption of the same is illegal. IELTS Essay
In some societies manufacturing of tobacco and alcoholic products is legal, but consumption of the same is illegal. So it is right to say that making consumption of these products illegal is impractical.
Do you agree or disagree with this?
It is a fact that, in almost all societies, tobacco and alcoholic products are legally produced and promoted though they are the worst health hazards. This is so because; these products constitute a huge industry involving great stakes for the society and state. So long as they are kept legal, banning their usage is almost impractical. 50 words
The factors that make it impractical are many. Primarily, is it the easy availability and their being cheap. For example; tobacco and alcoholic products are sold everywhere and they are even accessible to minors, too. Secondly, the consumption of these products is widely promoted both by the media and by the government as it is a huge source of revenue. Thirdly, alcoholism and tobacco consumption are widely eulogized as signs of heroism and the younger generation is widely being attracted to these hazards. So simply banning these evils may not make any difference in its prevalence in the society. 95 words.
On the other hand, we cannot ignore the fact that the welfare of the society is a matter of great concern, and governments have the duty to protect the general interests of the society. And as the younger generation is being targeted by these industrialized hazards, it is mandatory that there are some rules and regulations against these products. The future of the society needs to be taken seriously and the rights of the non-users need to be protected. So banning has some significance. 80 words
Concluding it, it is obvious that addiction to these products is causing great damage to the society. So the need for curtailing their spread is very important. Still it is hard to expect any big change by making their use illegal; rather it is a better idea to educate the public about the vices of these products. 55 words

Argue for and against ‘following a uniform syllabus’ in schools. IELTS essay skeleton
There is an argument that, since every child is unique with different talents and interests, making all children follow a uniform courseware in school is to be discouraged.·
Argue for and against this.
Giving right education to the young is a complex affair. When it comes to individual talents and tastes, this becomes more complex. So it is natural that there are differing views about the feasibility of following a uniform syllabus for all students. 40 words.
Looking at the statement positively, it is important to know that school children go through their formative years, and the need for identifying their latent skills and talents is of great importance. A uniform syllabus may not be helpful for this. For example, a student who is highly skilled extracurricular interests may find his classes boring. So it is important to catch them young. Their talents, skills and personal interests need to be identified in time. And the school classes need to be framed in such a way as to make every student perform well in his or her area of interest. So following a uniform syllabus may be discouraged. 110 words
On the other hand, if we view it from a different angle, it may reveal that school life has much more to offer a student than what s/he has in him as skills and talents. Every student has to have some basics to be successful in his future studies: for example, basic language and numerical ability, life and soft skills, to mention a few. A balanced syllabus can foster these skills. Furthermore, identifying and fostering inherit talents during school life is a great responsibility involving huge infrastructure. And school time is too early for them to take mature decisions on their hidden potentials. So they need to follow a uniform syllabus. 100 words
Concluding the argument, it is right to say that the need for identifying the skills is as important as ensuring a uniform quality in students till a certain period of their studies. In order to offset the controversy, we may frame an inclusive syllabus with enough room for fostering inherent skills too. 50 words

Competition has both advantages and disadvantages. II
Competition has both advantages and disadvantages. II
What are the major ones?
Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Competing is quite human, and it can be seen in every stage of human life. Today, people are living in a world of competition, and they try to survive and make themselves fit into the new competitive world order through outstanding performances. Competition has many advantages that are beneficial to us, but it has some drawbacks too if it is handled recklessly. 60 words
Obviously, there are many positive impacts for competing with others. Firstly, it enables individuals to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, it encourages them to do hard work and perform better. Secondly, one can understand the reality of life by facing both the ups and downs. Consequently, he or she can successfully face the adversities of life. There are many living examples for this: like Barak Obama, the US present, V.R. Krishnamoorthy of Infosis, Maradona, the sports legend, to mention a few. And it is interesting to be competing as well. 90 words
When it is viewed from the other side, competition has some drawbacks. That is, unhealthy competition promotes selfishness among people. That will ultimately lead to the deterioration of one’s personality. Moreover, many people resort to unethical practices to defeat others. Bribing judges and influencing them in someone’s favour and sports persons going for doping to enhance performance etc. are common. In fact, both success and failure impose a kind of pressure on the participants. It will adversely affect the behaviours if one cannot take it as a challenge. 85 words
In short, competition is ubiquitous and success is the result of one’s hard work and individuals should promote healthy competition among them and give more importance to win than to defeat others. So the above findings make it clear that advantages of competition far outweigh its disadvantages. 45 words.

Competition has both advantages and disadvantages.
Competition has both advantages and disadvantages.
What are the major ones?
Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Competition has always been there in this world since time immemorial and it is the very foundation of human survival too. The world enjoys enormous achievement as a result of ubiquitous competitions and it is a fact that its merits are manifold, though it has some darker sides as well. 50 words
Competition has myriad of advantages. It not only enables the participants to realize their strengths and weaknesses but also it encourages them to work hard, which in turn helps them attain their goals. Moreover, since success and failure are part of competition, one has to accept them both, thus facilitating the people to meet the challenges of life. Undoubtedly, by improving one’s caliber, potential and raising one’s resilience levels, competition plays a key role in developing the personality of individuals. And of course, such people will always be successful in their life. 90 words
However, as in many other cases, competition is not absolutely free of disadvantages. Primarily, there is chance for the participants to resort to unethical practices to win or to defeat their opponents. For instance, bribing judges, doping etc. which definitely spoils the very purpose of competition. Besides these, competition imposes large mount pressure not only on the winners- they have to improve their talents every time- but also on those who fail. Above all, competition encourages an attitude of neglect among the losers as they become insignificant in front of the winners. This leads to their dwindling confidence levels. 95 words
So it is right to conclude that, though competition has darker sides, its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. And I am of the opinion that healthy competition is to be promoted to ensure progress of the world since human survival itself is a competition. 45 words.

Unemployment is due to lack of initiative and quality education. IELTS essay
The lack of individual initiative and employment friendly education are the major reasons for unemployment in developing nations. How far is this true in your opinion?
Unemployment in poor nations is a grave issue. Although developing countries are considered as the richest sources of manpower, they lack good quality education to cope with the competitive world. Therefore, young aspirants fail to utilize the emerging opportunities. It is mainly due to the poor individual initiatives and substandard education. 50 words
It is true to a great extent that individuals’ personal preferences seriously affect the success rate in getting a job. Most of the people want white color jobs, and they do not take risks or challenges as they are being shaped in that way from their childhood onwards. Moreover, the today's private sector employers want confident candidates with outstanding performance not only in their certificates but also in their soft skills like communication, problem solving ability, time management and multi-tasking, to mentino a few. Naturally, poorly skilled ones lose the opportunity and their confidence level begins to fall. what is follows is rising unemployment rates. 90 words.
Similarly poor educational standards also lead to unemployment to a great extent. That is, there is wide disparity seen between the rich and poor and the rich can afford the high cost of education whereas the poor get only substandard education from poor institutions. The same thing happens in the case of urban and rural people. The urban people get more exposure than poor ones. Therefore, the former out-perform the latter in competitive exams and interviews. The ultimate result is unemployment. 80 words
In short, it is a fact that the world is full of opportunities but the attitude of the individuals and industry friendly education are required to achieve success in fetching employment. After all, if there is a will, there is a way. That is, if one is determined he or she can find employment. 50 words

an expensive product you wish to buy. cue card. IELTS
An expensive product you wish to buy
Two minutes’ cue card exercise:
Well, frankly speaking, I wish to buy a lot many expensive things.
Among them, my immediate priority is to but a laptop.
I know it involves a lot of money. Still I have a plan to buy one.
Actually my plan is to buy it buy the end of this year.
I think, I will be able to generate some money all by myself.
I am working now, and within six months I can buy it, I feel so.
When it comes to brands, I am a little confused.
Because there are a series of brands available in the market.
I have already had some discussions with some of my friends
They say, Apple is a popular brand.
Yes, this laptop is going to help me in many ways.
Firstly, I can take my office with me wherever I go.
Secondly, I can stay in touch with the rest of the world always.
And finally, I can store great amount of data in it.
Above all, as a professional, I can make use of this machine in many ways.
Since information is very important in today’s professions,
I can log on to the net at anytime and get the right data for my daily use.
There is another factor too, that is holding a laptop is a sign of status too
So hopefully, I will be able to buy one very shortly.
That is all about the expensive product I wish to buy.
Take this as a token answer, and you may select your own product. Car, television, washing machine, mobile phone, AC, micro wave oven etc. and develop an answer in accordance with their significance. Please try to apply the frame of the above answer. Words, steps, personal phrases, divisions and conclusion. Good luck.
