Flexible work schedule, frequent free days and in-house
facilities for recreation are offered for new generation employees unlike in
the past where it was non-stop work all the way.

What do
you think are the reasons behind this change of attitude?
·
Do you think
it is dangerous to put employees under pressure?
There was a time when employers
wanted their workers to be bee-like. Now it is conveniences all the way for new
generation workforce. Let me see why there is an attitudinal shift. And
pressure for performance, to me, is dangerous.
The primary reason behind this
swing in favour of employees is the stiff competition being felt across the
business spectrum. When competition mounts, employees’ confidence clicks more
than anything else. For example, new generation employers are worried more
about whether the work is done in time or not. So flexible time and free days off
and on are alright. And in-house recreation facilities promote output.
Second thing is today IT
enabled services let employees work 24x7, and work is getting done at home,
back in office or on the way unlike in the past. Besides, several HR studies
across the world have shown that people who work in relaxed environs are
healthier, happier and more loyal. They love to belong.
Putting pressure on employees,
on the other hand, is able to spoil the employees’ morale. As a result, the
working environs may become places of discontent and disharmony. Apart from
this, the civility quotient, that is customary for the success of any
organization, may suffer. Above all, too much pressure causes work-like
imbalance, and habits like absenteeism, reporting late, leaving early and even
jumping jobs may become common. In the long run, the employer himself may go
broke.
In short, it is not for
nothing employers go flexible these days. There are enough reasons. However,
pressuring the staff to do more will be counter productive. In my opinion, pressure
perishes people and their performance, whereas freedom fosters all.
