The older segment of any populace is a social concern around the world and it has been so all along. But today the concerns this segment raises are graver than they were before?
·         Why is this change of gravity to the problems raised by the elderly?
·         How can we address this issue rather humanely?

The population ageing has always been a problem, but of late, the issues this segment raise are a litter graver than before. There are reasons for this change, and there are ways to handle these concerns in a friendly manner.

The primary thing is that the aged today are healthier than their counterparts. This condition, unlike it looks, is actually a problem. For example, a retired person in his sixties or seventies is healthy enough for a second innings. Naturally, when there is poor scope for further engagement, such people get isolated, deprived and disappointed. They go restless.

Second thing is, in the past, the oldies had had great respect from their surroundings. But, today it is neglect, insecurity and helplessness generated by the gen next and the new generation nuclear parents who live their life out of suitcase all the time. The outcome is there is a huge aged population segment strong enough to put the government, younger generation and the very society in tender hooks.

Anyway, there are measures to handle this case. The first thing that can be tried is putting the aged in some useful work. This could be charity, domestic work or some social service. So that they will get time to be with others. Secondly, it is a good idea to invite their expertise for the betterment of the day. And finally, nuclear parents need to understand that ageing is for all, and it is their turn tomorrow. Obviously, they can be a little humane with their elder ones.

In short, there are strong reasons why the oldies today are a little more troublesome compared to past. The suggestions I have made here may a long way in making this segment sync with the mainstream and thus keep the society comfortable.
