There is a growing concern on the fact that younger generation is concentrating more on real time technology and its possibilities than on their society and its related responsibilities.
• How genuine is this concern in your opinion?
• How best does real time technology help the young?
It is fact that real-time technology makes the young generation spare sizeable amount of time on its possibilities. Naturally, this is at the cost of their societal bearings. But, we cannot ignore the fact that this technology helps them in different ways.
Today’s young are mad about communication devices, and the time, money and energy they set aside for this is much more than what they spare for their health or society. Obviously, there is imbalance in their participation in societal commitments. For example, we cannot see many youngsters these days participate in any voluntary or paid social service. Most of them stay away from the mainstream thinking that they can do everything with real-time possibilities. Naturally, they ignore their social roles. It is a matter of great concern and, I would say, it is a dangerous state of affairs.
However, does modern society look so bleak due to this ‘overtime on technology’? No. Great many youngsters are making hey when it shines. Real-time technology is a money spinner. In sectors like education, entertainment, employment, business and governance real time technology helps the younger generation by way of direct and indirect employment, investment and, thereby their many faceted empowerments. So, what is in store for the young and their immediate society? The former stands at greater advantage whereas the latter stands to lose considerably in terms of individual’s social intervention.
In short, this disparity in real-time and social time is a logical continuation of time itself. However, it is better for the young to remember that there are certain things that are far beyond the reach of real-time technology. So they need to strike a balance between the time they spare for real-time and social time.
