1. I was very happy when I got my first salary because I was realizing that I was able to work and earn money as my parents were earning. One day I was told that there was an interview session going to happen. I was doubtful/confused about my candidature. But my parents and friends were there to give me confidence and courage. If they were not there, I would not have become an employee now. It was their efforts, help and prayers that made me whatever I am now. Interestingly, when the interview result came out, I was surprised to note that my name was in. Many smart candidates were there for the interview, but many of their names were not in the list. I felt really great.

2. I had attended some other interviews before I attended this one. Many of my friends also had attended interviews like I had (did). But no one of them was successful. But all those attempts were giving me courage to do better in the following interviews. Anyway I had to prepare well before I attended this one. I did not have any (had no) problems with regard to the theory side of the interview, but when it came to practical side, I did have to (had to) consult many of my friends to find better answers for possible questions.

3. I used to read a lot of books and journals as part of my hobby and this habit had helped me a lot in my studies too. This time, it was this reading that was coming to help me. I was in the habit of taking notes while reading. These notes were compiled and kept in order. Since I wanted to use these notes later in my life, I was very careful and serious about them. Reading was my passion and I was reading any thing and everything that came my way. I had my priorities too when it came to reading. I always liked to read novels and short stories. It was easy for me to find such books. Our local library had a good stock of them. I liked them very much, and I visited the library whenever I had time and I read some stories 5/10 times. I loved repeat(ed) reading. It made me a fast reader.

4. Before joining here, I had been working with another firm. My responsibilities there included many things. I could have been a Manager now if I had been wise in decision making. Still, I do not know whether I was making the right decision at that time. I might have been thinking differently those days. During that period I would (used to) consult a lot of people whenever I (had) faced a small problem. They would call me, doubting Thomas. Those times were really great when I think of them now. They were all for good.

5. Locate the past forms of verbs in the following paragraph.

In my last job, I had many opportunities to meet new people. I met them, talked to/with them, sat with them, travelled and ate with them. At times, I went to their places and stayed with them. Some of them visited my home too. That time was really interesting. I did not meet even a single visitor who was not happy to do business with us. Once, a visitor came to see me. He asked me whether it was possible for me to visit his place. I told him, yes. I went to his place. When I went there, I was surprised to see the preparations he and his family had made for me. On that day I realized the importance of friendship and greatness of being a guest.
