Water conservation: You and your government

https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif
The water wealth of the world is depleting alarmingly, and the need for water conservation is very great as well. This fact notwithstanding, water is not taken seriously.
·         How best can you support water conservation?
·         Do you think the onus of water conservation is on the governments alone?

The whole world is found to be taking water, the lifeblood of the whole flora and fauna, in a take-it-for-granted manner though the significance of its conservation is mounting every passing day. In this respect, as an educated and informed individual, I can help conserve water in different ways and, in my view, this mammoth responsibility is a concerted one.

Let me first see what I can do to see that water is not wasted and every drop of available water is wisely managed. I will ensure that my home is water-conscious by way of rainwater harvesting and waste water recycling. For example, when I get a new home constructed for myself, I would spend sizeably for keeping my home water-rich naturally. The second thing is responsible shopping. Water-intensive household appliances, products and conveniences like bath tubs, dishwashers and washing machines would not come to home. Besides all these, I can participate in all types of aforestation drives and I raise my voice against all types of deforestation and water-mismanagement attempts.

Since a single sparrow is not able to make a Spring, there should be collective intervention from all quarters to make the world sustain itself with enough water round the year. There are certain responsibilities on water conservation that people cannot carry out. In such case, governments must intervene. For example, enacting laws against indiscriminate leveling up of low lying lands, marshy water bodies, industrial felling and logging, stopping clearance for industries that are highly water intensive and the like may make great differences in water conservation. However, at the end of the day, what matters most is how people of the world respond to the call of the governments on the need for water conservation. No government can do this job all alone.

My conclusion is water conservation is a consciousness that needs to be nurtured in every human being. When it comes to its conservation, everyone, like me, has to hold hands together. It is really illogical to assume that governments are the ones to take up this Herculean job of water conservation.

Changes in food habits: its alright, not it is not alright

Task II
Changes in food habits are happening much faster than ever. Some people believe that it is no big deal as it is a collateral development of the changing life, while there are others who hold the view that it is a much bigger problem than it looks.
Discuss both the views and put in your opinion on it.

Of late, people’s eating habits are found to be jumping into the bandwagon of change in tune with the changing life. Obviously, different people observe it from differing angles; it is just part of the overall change for some people, but for others it is a larger concern. Let me discuss these two and state what I feel of it.

·          Change is the order            : Food is the most enticing thing: faster change is not total change
·          What you eat is what you are:            Food culture is of ages       Every place has it.
·          What i feel: it is a cannot-do-without thing.          Our food must stay in our thoughts:

Long paid maternity leave and population stimulus.

Some people view that women should be given a year-long maternity leave with all the allowances, while others say such a provision might encourage great population growth and, therefore, it should be reduced to a couple of months.
·         Discuss both the views to find out the substance behind them.

The provision for longer maternity leave has always invited differing views. For some people, it is worth it to offer a year-long paid leave; but for others, longer paid break is detrimental on population grounds. Let me discuss these two views to see how well founded they are.

A year-long paid leave would do great favours for both the mothers and their babies. The thing is that successful mothering calls for greater peace of mind and genuine dedication. These two things will add on to the welfare of the baby. The constant presence of mother for a year will make the child healthy For instance, many studies have found that mothers who have been able to stay with their newborns are healthier and, so, more productive than others. Besides this, such lucky children are found to be making great differences in terms of nation building.

The detrimental effects, however, on population growth due to this are grave as well. It is a fact that, when mothering becomes much less expensive and more convenient, many couple would go complacent.  In some cases, the time gap between two children might come down too, thinking that the government would foot the bill. The other thing is that it is rather harder for any government to feed all the mothers for a year without getting any immediate returns. This burden would be further augmented by the additional population generated out of this provision.

The discussion, in short, makes it very much clear that both the views hold enough water, and the first view, though a little ambitious for many governments, is futuristic. However, minimizing it to a couple of months is harmful for those serious mothers who wish their children to be hale and healthy.

Medical practice is easier today. no it is not. ?

Some believe that practicing medicine is much easier today for medical personnel than it was some years ago. But, this view is not supported by all.

·         Do you think the first view is of some substance?
·         What could be the factors that make some others oppose this view?

Medical practice, no matter when, has always been a serious job. However, there is a belief, of late, that it is not so tough today as it was. This opinion, in my perspective, is not without some significance. But, there are reasons for others to take an opposite stance.

Medical profession has come a long way in many more terms than one could imagine of. Diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, treatment modalities, critical care management exercises and the like have become so handy and predictable for the medical personnel. The IT enabled speed with which medical information gets generated and spread across the world has been keeping the medical fraternity at a greater advantage today than it was some 20 or 30 years before.

For example, any new medical breakthrough that happens anywhere in the world is accessible for all and made affordable for both medical practitioners and their clientele. Things were not that easy sometime ago. So the first view holds some water.

This significance of the opinion notwithstanding, there is relevance in the view expressed by the opposing camp. The first thing could be that, today, patients are much more informed and choosy than their older counterparts. Naturally, the god-like posture of doctors has given way to a service provider’s, calling for greater accountability.

Besides, very strange medical conditions that defy all diagnostic procedures, pressure generated by the industrialization of medical care and, above all, the ever increasing professional-patient ratio could be the other factors that endorse other view.

There is no doubt about the fact that medical practice, to an extent, has become more comfortable for the medical guild. But, everything is not that rosy for them. The factors that make others think that it is harder today are indicative of that fact. This is my conclusion.

If the growing digital literacy and the allied IT possibilities are anything to go by, the whole world is likely to experience halt in the sense that people would stop travelling for entertainment, education, shopping and employment.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

The graph of e. literacy and the related IT possibilities are offering greater opportunities for people to live their lives differently. Naturally, the extent of travel they may make for essentials is likely to come down drastically.

Today, entertainment is in the air, and people are carrying their medias with them. If this trend goes on like this in the days to come, with greater e. literacy, people would not move out to have fun outdoors. For example, most of the people are able to download apps and access games and shows as they wish. Similarly, the number of takers who go for regular education might decline as online education is going to pick up greater momentum thanks to greater digital qualifications.

If we take up shopping as a must of life, there are several online portals that sell everything ranging from automobiles to antiques. There is no big need for frequenting shops and malls and windows. Things are going to get door-delivered and greater extent of time is saved. The story is going to be same for travel related to work. Even today, great many people work at home. If e literacy increases like it does today, tomorrow will be more and more work at home than elsewhere.

All these probabilities notwithstanding, there will be certain areas where people of all times will have to travel. Spiritual journeys, business tours, serious medical follow-ups, to mention a few, are there where e. possibilities are at a disadvantage.

In short, the days to come are going to be times of much less travel for the musts of life, and the world will be going after IT possibilities. This fall in travel cannot be called a halt, though.

Climograph on calcutta, an answer by anu from arabia

The given graph illustrates the average experienced temperature and rainfall in Kolkata over twelve months. The temperature is depicted in degree Celsius and precipitation in millimeter.

At a glance, for the first four consecutive months, from January to April, the available rainfall is 50 or less than that. There is a steadily rise in temperature over the same period, about 20 to 28. The following two months May and June, record the highest rise in temperature, 30. There is steep increase in rainfall from the month June until September.

Obviously, the rainfall reaches the maximum in July and August, about 340mm, and the temperature also remains the same on a lower rate of 28. Gradually, the rainfall declines from September and in October it suddenly drops to 150mm as compared with the previous month. Likewise, the temperature also slowly comes down from September onwards, and the least recorded temperature is 20 in both December and January. Also, the rainfall is very minimal in the final two months.

To summarize, rainfall and the temperature are inversely related to one another throughout the months except in the final three months.

Population in age groups and expected figures

The pie charts illustrate the percentage of population on various ages in the countries of Yemen and Italy in the year 2000 and its prediction for 2050.

The most significant feature is that number of people who are more than 60 years is expected to increase significantly in the year 2050 in both countries.

From the first two pie charts, it can be clearly seen that, in 2000, almost half of the Yemen  population was 0-14 years (52%) whereas, its rate is  expected to be 37% in 2050. However, the percentage of 15-59 years was 46.3%  while, in 2050, it is predicted that it will go up to 57.3%. Meanwhile, only 3.6% was accounted for old people in 2000 while, its number is likely to get escalated in 2050, (5.7%).

Moving to second two charts, it is evident that, more than half of population was 15-59 years whereas, its rate is likely to be  46.2% in 2050. Similarly, the percentage of 0-14 years also is to decline from 14.3% to 11.5% in 2050. However, the number of old people is to be very high in 2050.
To sum up, it is obvious from the charts that ( no comma)  younger population (0-14) is  expected to decline in 2050 in both countries.

To be declined is passive voice and to decline is active. This was a major grammar error in this work. Barring that, the answer is excellent. I will copy it to my class.

Success hard to define. common elements of success

Success is hard to define, but everyone has his or her own definition.
However, there are certain common things that go into the making of everyone's success.

·          Why is success so hard to define?
·          What are the common elements that add on to the success of everyone?

https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif
The concept ‘success’ has always defied a common definition though people in general define it in their own ways. This fact notwithstanding, there are a few common components that contribute to the success of all. Let this write up see why defining it is very hard and what those common factors of success are.

Success basically is a personal feeling that gets generated out of countless factors. Naturally, since it is something individual, it defers from person to person and so it is hard to define. For example, the success concerns of a school leaving student will be confined to the high scores he is expected to get. But, the story is different when it comes to a family man who has got a few children, a career and some social standing. For him, success is far bigger a concept and he would have an entirely different definition.  No wonder, success as a concept will go on defying a common definition for sure. It is so abstract that.

Despite this mysterious nature of success, there are a couple of elements that are applicable for anyone who wants to relish success or we can identify the same in anyone who has already had success. The first thing is called perseverance. It is the indomitable will to be successful at any cost. Such an attitude is rare. Second thing is merit. It is a combination of talent, attitude and skills or knowledge. For example, a person with some merit will make it to the top and go successful. And finally it is right to say the milieu one belongs to is also a factor that plays a bigger role. Even if the other two components are there, a hostile milieu will spoil one’s success drive.

In short, success will always remain mysterious making people take it the way the like. But the common instruments that make success possible are there to be shared by all those who wish to be successful.

Ielts Writing Task 1

The pie charts illustrate how much money the English people spent on various categories   over a period of thirty years between 1971 and 2001. (between 1970 and 1990 /from 1970 to 1990 )
The most significant feature is that, in 1971, almost half of the money was spent (passive voice) on food whereas, major expenses accounted for (not on but for) cars in 2001.

It is evident from the charts that expense on food was 44% in 1971 while, its figure declined to 14% in 2001. However, what they set aside for cars in 1971 was only 22%, just half of what they found for food, whereas, its rate got almost doubled in 2001 (43%). Meanwhile, outlay on restaurant also got doubled to 14% from 7% in 2001.

Similarly, the Britons spared greater share of their income on computers in 2001 (12%), recording a six-fold increase from its 1971 figure, two percent. On the other hand, expense on books went for a sharp fall from six percent to one percent. Interestingly, their spending on furniture had no big change during those years; that was 9% in 1971 and became 8% in 2001.

To conclude, it is clear from the charts that, (no comma) the UK citizens’ (apostrophe) spending habits had changed and the most visible change was felt while spending on cars.

A seven band essay by Biji from Scotland

Success is hard to define, and everyone has his or her own definitions.
However, there are certain common things that go into the making of everyone's success.

Why is success so hard to define?
What are the common elements that add on to the success of everyone?

It is a fact that the term ‘success’ is difficult to define because it varies from person to person. Although it has different meanings in different individuals, there are common factors that make success in people’s life. This essay will examine various factors that make success and why it is difficult to define. ( eautiful)

People in general have different perspectives about success.  It is not related each other. It is based on their age, sex and circumstances. For example, youngsters always consider attaining high marks in their examination and obtaining desired jobs are their achievement. This attitude gets varied ( is varied and gets varied are different Biji)  in the case of older age group. According to them, leading happy family life in terms of money and respectable position in the society is (leading happy life is singular)  the base of success. Therefore, success of an individual is difficult to define.

However, there are certain factors that lead to success. The prime factor is positive attitude which enables a person to attain their desired goal easily. This positive energy automatically boosts their determination and forces them to attain their goal and succeed in life. Moreover, saving more money, achieving higher qualification and jobs are the other elements for success. These factors definitely satisfy all people in general. As a result, people can savour success.

From the above mentioned points, it can be concluded that, even though success is difficult to define, there are certain factors like money, qualification and optimistic approach that definitely add to the success of every individual in one way or the other.

Job satisfaction and life. Ms. Dalia's essay

Take it as a model for all the four exam components. Vocabulary, cohesion and pargraphing, task and grammar.

Nowadays people think that the most important thing in life is job satisfaction. Without excellent career life is meaningless. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
A work by Ms Dalia Joy
Brilliant work Dalia!!

The world has been experiencing a shift in its attitude to job since man started organized life. Of late, people think that job satisfaction is the most important thing in life. Certainly, there is some substance in this view. But I would say an emphatic ''no' to this view. 50

In this fast-paced world, people are much more glued to their job than anything else. This is the primary reason for people’s attraction to careers. Let me substantiate it. People spend most of their time in their workplaces. This will naturally make them job-focused. And, obviously, their only thirst is bettering their career. These employees will naturally get lured to their job satisfaction. 60

The second argument behind this love for job is the competitiveness. People are more and more competing and greedy. Everyone wants to be in the first place. The lucrative jobs make them have hefty dreams.  So people again give job satisfaction a prime position. For instance, big companies provide better remuneration for good performers. This will gradually make people happy to go after career and the satisfaction it offers. 65

Though excellent jobs provide greater satisfaction, many personal losses are at the cost of this. Interpersonal relationships and bonding between family members are waning out. A lot of wealth or posh life cannot provide peace for mind. All these competitions of the world would reach at a saturation point. By the time people realize the truth, the time might have hijacked their whole life. 65
To conclude, job satisfaction has a role in life, but it must not take away the meaning of life. Life has much more to offer than what a satisfying job is likely to offer. My disagreement with the given view is made clear. 40

Some view that women should be given a year-long maternity leave with all the allowances, while others say such a provision might encourage great population growth and, therefore, it should be reduced to a couple of months.

·         Discuss both the views to find out the substance behind them.

The provision for longer maternity leave has always invited differing views. For some people, it is worth it to offer a year-long paid leave; but for others, longer paid leave is detrimental on population grounds.

How many nations, however, can afford to shoulder this financial burden is worth pondering over too.

The first two things, of the six, to remember when writing IELTS tasks

The first two things, of the six, to remember when writing IELTS tasks

1. The purpose of the IELTS writing is to demonstrate YOUR ability to write coherently in ENGLISH on a given topic

It is very important to bear this in mind when preparing for the exam. This is one of your chances in the IELTS exam to take control (the other being in the speaking) and demonstrate your great ability in English and to write good English so don’t waste it!
Make sure that you give a lot of preparation time to this and , if possible, get a teacher to help you especially if you are looking at bands 7 and 8. The teacher will not only mark your essays but will also help you to improve it by showing you how to develop your writing to ensure that you get the band you want.

2. The key to IELTS writing is effective preparation and practice.
I know that many IELTS students work VERY hard on their IELTS but I have also met many who, despite this hard work, have not been able to achieve their goal. Your practice has to be effective to work for YOU.

If you need to get band 7 you HAVE to understand what a band 7 essay looks like, what it contains and how it feels to write one. You need to know this in your muscle!  To do this you need to produce one and this may take 2 or 3 hours but it doesn’t matter, once you have it then you will not go back to your old way of writing again.

Less is more with writing – quantity does NOT necessarily produce quality. It is better to work for a long time on ONE essay than produce 4 at once. You have an IELTS teacher or coach then I will tell you when you have managed to get your band 7 essay down. If not then you will have to rely on models. Model essays are YOUR key to great writing and don’t rely simply on the good essays of your friends, they will have mistakes.

See the model essay posted right after this.

That the new generation is suffering from greater stress levels than the older generation is a myth; rather people of all times have experienced varying levels of stress according to the nature of the lives they have lived.

Do you agree or disagree with this view?
https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

Stress is a state of mind a person experiences when things fail to take place in the way one expects them to. If we go by this definition, there is great substance in the view that present generation undergoes greater stress than those of the past is just a myth. People of all times have had their share of stress.

The first thing that makes me believe that stress is an invisible shadow of the times we are living is that there is something unpredictable in life. We cannot sit back and rest assured that everything will fall in place as we expect. For example, I want make a seven for IELTS and the exam is known to be unpredictable to a greater extent.

Therefore, the stress an exam-taking candidate undergoes is peculiar to the exam of the times. In contrast, we all know that, in the past, exams were not that difficult as the mercury of competition was not kept this high; rather there were smaller number of takers for competitive exams, but that smaller number had had their due share of stress thinking of the outcome.

Let me take the case of new generation and its so-called greater stress. Basically, this population is flooded with great possibilities and, as a result, it sets sky-high goals in life. Naturally, when people think of the outcome or what would happen if things fail to happen in their favour, they feel the pinch and get great stress.

It is not that there is greater stress; rather their higher aspirations are the real culprit. Higher is the flight, naturally, bigger is the fall. This fear of big fall is the thing that makes some people endorse the myth that the new generation is at a greater disadvantage in terms of stress. Actually they are not.

My conclusion is no man is an island, and everyone is expected to face the kind of stress according the type of life one lives, and the times one lives in is the real determinant of stress. The people of olden times had it, we have it now and the coming generation is going to have it.

Libin from Ireland writes on how Internet acts on newspaper

The rising numbers of IT enabled services especially in the field of social media are (not is, numbers are ) a great asset across the world today. I tend to believe that the expanding numbers and the wider use of social media have definitely decreased the popularity of newspaper (newspaper is a word not two words).

It is right to say that the increasing numbers of social media has been involving considerably in today’s life for accessing news. As consumption of the Internet is widespread across the world today, accessing it ( use pronouns to avoid repetition) is not a big deal even for an ordinary person. Social media provide greater opportunities to upload their own personal status and impression on a thing and spread news. Taking news far and wide ( the word spread is used once) through social media is extremely faster and convenient. Facebook, Twitter and the like are a couple of (not some) examples. There is no panic whether the news is right, because news is being generated from a particular area and more than one person will upload the same news. Therefore, most of the contents (not majority) of content would be similar so that t is easy to find out the authenticity of any media information.

On the other side, the popularity of press is getting faded (do not write due to many reasons) due to many factors. As part of increasing their circulation, they exaggerate the news and keep trying to protect socially renowned people even though they are found guilty. Besides that, the processing of news is also a bit complicated in the press as all news since morning will be piled up and processed at the end of the day. Certainly, it needs a proportionate amount of time for printing which, obviously, is dispensed in the early morning. People who tend to read the news need to wait until it arrives and they read the news at least 12 hours later. Furthermore, readers would not get enough idea at a glance from the headlines as the content will be illustrated in the following article. It is time consuming.

From the above mentioned point, it can be concluded that one of the best channels for accessing right news is social media. As the popularity of social media is going upward, naturally, a downward spiral in the subscription rates of newspaper is quite evident.

Government and e. governance

Task II
Any government is a small body of people of different capacities and its machinery is mostly housed far from the governed. Some say e. governance would bridge the gap between the governments and the governed.

Is e. governance the answer to this gap?

Are there any other way/s to address this issue?

The bar chart gives information about the vending figures for reading materials, over a decade, from 2002 to 2012. The chart compares the sales of four types of books: hobbies, entertainment, history and art.

It is clear that history ( no comma) books represent the largest portion of the sale, whereas (one word I corrected it many times) the hobby books undoubtedly the smallest. In 2008, 10000 copies of history books were sold and that was the peak figure for the decade, whereas sales of hobbies   books remained stable at less than 1000 copies between the year 2002 and 2012. The graph shows a significant similarity in sales between entertainment books and art books that the both figures gradually increased from less than 2000 copies from 2002 and it almost got doubled by 2012.

In general, what stands out from the graph is, there was a clear disparity between the trading of these four books from the year 2002 to 2012. But the overall business reflected an upward trend.

Answer two

The chart illustrates the percentage of world population and distribution of resources by region. The chart compares the population and global wealth distribution between 7 regions.

It is clear from the data that, population ( no comma) is inversely proportional to global wealth. China holds 25% of the world population which is the highest among the seven countries, where as Rich Asia Pacific is in the lowest position with 5%.

It is evident from the data that North America possess the  largest portion of the global wealth (34%), but  their population is  just above 5%. Europe comes second with 30% of the total global wealth. India and Africa have the least fraction of global wealth but in contrast these countries accommodate 15 % and 12% of the total population respectively. The number of residence of Other  Asia - Pacific and Europe are equal to India’s.

It can be inferred from the chart that, the global wealth is unequally distributed among the countries.
