Some believe that practicing medicine is much
easier today for medical personnel than it was some years ago. But, this view
is not supported by all.
·
Do
you think the first view is of some substance?
·
What
could be the factors that make some others oppose this view?
Medical
practice, no matter when, has always been a serious job. However, there is a belief,
of late, that it is not so tough today as it was. This opinion, in my
perspective, is not without some significance. But, there are reasons for
others to take an opposite stance.
Medical profession
has come a long way in many more terms than one could imagine of. Diagnostics,
pharmaceuticals, treatment modalities, critical care management exercises and
the like have become so handy and predictable for the medical personnel. The IT
enabled speed with which medical information gets generated and spread across
the world has been keeping the medical fraternity at a greater advantage today
than it was some 20 or 30 years before.
For example,
any new medical breakthrough that happens anywhere in the world is accessible for
all and made affordable for both medical practitioners and their clientele. Things
were not that easy sometime ago. So the first view holds some water.
This
significance of the opinion notwithstanding, there is relevance in the view
expressed by the opposing camp. The first thing could be that, today, patients
are much more informed and choosy than their older counterparts. Naturally, the
god-like posture of doctors has given way to a service provider’s, calling for
greater accountability.
Besides, very
strange medical conditions that defy all diagnostic procedures, pressure
generated by the industrialization of medical care and, above all, the ever increasing
professional-patient ratio could be the other factors that endorse other view.
There is no
doubt about the fact that medical practice, to an extent, has become more
comfortable for the medical guild. But, everything is not that rosy for them. The
factors that make others think that it is harder today are indicative of that
fact. This is my conclusion.
