Some people say urgent problems in modern society can only be solved with international cooperation. Do you agree or disagree?
A write –up by Ms Christy Mary
Hats off Christy Mary!!!
Problems are part and parcel of every society. These problems cannot be avoided but could be solved. Indeed problem solving is skill that is required in everyday life, and it is present in very individual as well as society. So I do not agree with the opinion that urgent problems in modern society can only be solved with international cooperation. 60

When a problem arises in a society, that society becomes unstable. Other countries can take advantage of this instability if such problems are taken up to the international level. For example, if a religious conflict occurs in any part of India and it receives international attention, our enemies like Pakistan and China will be looking forward for such an opportunity to encroach out borders as they know that our defense community will be engaged otherwise.  So, taking problems out is like inviting more and more disturbances. 90
Solving a problem ourselves indicates that we have reached the level of self-realization. Such a society is stable, unified and powerful. So we should search for alternatives to solve the problems before seeking outside help. There is a saying that, ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’. It holds true here as outsiders may come up with different solutions that may even cause more problems. The people of that society which face the problem are the sufferers, and no one can help them more than what they could do for themselves. 90

However, international problems like terrorism, global warming and the like which affect every nation could be solved by international cooperation. But the same strategy does not work for every problem arising within a community however urgent it is. 35

In short, solving problems ourselves is more advantageous than seeking outside help. All societies have their resources and brains within them to solve problems. Then, why should a society borrow help? So, I have all the reasons to go with self reliance, and the view that international cooperation is the only solution is not agreeable.   50
