The pie charts illustrate how much money the English people spent on various
categories over a period of thirty
years between 1971 and 2001. (between 1970 and 1990 /from 1970 to 1990 )
The most significant feature is that, in 1971, almost half
of the money was spent (passive
voice) on food whereas, major expenses accounted
for (not on but for) cars in 2001.
It is evident from the charts that expense on food was 44% in 1971 while, its figure declined to 14%
in 2001. However, what they set aside
for cars in 1971 was only 22%, just half of what they found for food, whereas, its rate got almost doubled in 2001 (43%).
Meanwhile, outlay on restaurant also got doubled to 14% from 7% in 2001.
Similarly, the Britons spared greater
share of their income on computers in 2001 (12%), recording a six-fold
increase from its 1971 figure, two percent. On the other hand, expense on books
went for a sharp fall from six percent
to one percent. Interestingly, their spending
on furniture had no big change during those years; that was 9% in 1971 and became
8% in 2001.
To conclude, it is clear from the charts that, (no comma) the UK citizens’ (apostrophe) spending habits
had changed and the most visible change
was felt while spending on cars.
