In some countries attempting to commit suicide is a crime
whereas in some others taking life as a punishment is legal as well.

How
acceptable are these two different legal approaches to human life to you?
Different legal systems look
at human life through differing angles; failed suicide attempt is a crime in
one place and death sentence for serious crimes is legal too. Anyway, I find
both of them partly alright.
Let me first see ‘attempt to
commit suicide’. There are two types of suicides; willful and forced. When it
comes to the former, there is a double tragedy. For example, going to the
extent of suicide itself is a tragedy and slapping a case against a failed attempt
is another one. In this case, the State must try to rehabilitate the victim
instead of vilifying him or her.
Coming to the second, forced
suicide, unless the law takes its course, the victim may try it again. For example,
if a case is registered against the failed victim, the law can identify whether
there had been any force behind that extreme attempt. If yes, such people can
be nailed and brought behind bars and the victim can be allowed to lead a
normal life. Therefore, the law needs to take a look at all suicides.
Similar is the case with
death sentence: the court can go wrong sometimes, or people may frame a person
and manipulate evidences and eliminate an innocent. For example, lately China, to
its dismay, came to realize that a boy of 18 was put to death before some years
and now he has been declared innocent. This irreversible act will haunt China all
the time. But, some heinous, hardcore criminals, who deserve no love or
compassion or kindness, need to be eliminated by law; taking a life for the
sake of great many.
My conclusion is both the approaches
have some relevance in human life and the jury should be in and wiser while handling
such cases. Anyway, any court must avoid double tragedies.
